I'm trying to help an older Gentleman fix one of his old prohib pistols.
Unique 25acp baby browning knock off.
He says everything works except the trigger will not reset when fired but does every time you cycle the gun manually.
Sear spring was replaced some time ago with no impact on function.

Looking for any advice.
Thanks I advance.

That's what I thought. Maby he's riding the trigger but no it resets every time manually weather I hold the trigger or not. Thinking maybe recoil spring is weak and action is just moving too fast. I don't know.
Hard to know what's working or not when he can't go test fire it.

It could be dirty, The sears could be worn, springs could be weak. A gunsmith could possibly determine that. Are parts available?
Does it really matter if it works when functioned by hand but not when firing it? Does he do a lot of target shooting with it?

It's not dirty. I put it through a sonic cleaner. He says it hasn't run properly in 30? years since he purchased it.
Wasn't an issue to him then as there were always more you could buy for cheap back then.

I did stone the sear as it had a tiny burr but that's all I've done.
Sear spring was replaced some time back buy a proper gunsmith.
Parts are somewhat available from gun parts Corp.
So either need to try and get the remaining springs replaced and possibly a replacement sear.
If you can't tell I'm a little out of my element with this level of repairs/troubleshooting.

Hard to know what's working or not when he can't go test fire it.
In the past I know of instances where small cartridges as this were fired in basements into a piece of 4 x 4 backed by a piece of 4 x 4. Of course today that would be breaking the law if caught

😆 what happens in his basement stays in his basement. Just glad it's not my house
Yep, a 5 gal pail of water I bet would stop a 25acp, and my thought is if everything looks good, old ammo, not enough to cycle the slide back far enough to reset the hammer.
usally in that case the brass will not be ejected very far, I have ran into it with dirty old 32 pocket pistol a couple times.
If not this , likely the hammer is following the slide down
Try running it dry, if that don't work, run it wet, 25 should not care.
Hard to gunsmith when you can't see it. I know , no help
Why can't he & you test fire ? no range membership?
