What is exactly meant by a trigger job? What does it do to the trigger? All my rifles trigger is different what is the desireable trigger feel? My k31 you have to pull it back always before you feel it is ready to fire the rifle. My mosins are firmer and you feel you have to give them a bit of a yank to fire them. What is it people want a soft smooth pull?

A nice trigger is light to pull, smooth not gritty, does not have take up or over travel and has a short reset. Breaks like glass. Basically you want the motion of pulling the trigger to not pull the gun at all off target as it is one of the biggest factors that will screw up your accuracy. In competitive pistol shooting you want to be able to shoot as fast as possible and still be accurate. Having a short reset and light pull is ideal for that.

What you're describing with the K31 is a 2 stage trigger. The first stage is a light pull that leads to the second stage which should be a harder but shorter travel until the break. K31 is an example of a great trigger on a milsurp whereas the Mosin-Nagant triggers vary widely and aren't typically all that good. Finnish triggers are 2 stage.
