Can someone tell me what brand and size trigger lock will give the best fit and lock for a Colt 45 Stainless 1911? Wondering if this is something I should order than what may be offered at my tiny gun store with limited room for ample stock of various models.

Read some stories here that give the impression that not all trigger locks are made equal.

I'm going to say that most trigger locks work well if they are installed properly. I have an R1 and use a Bass Pro trigger lock, nice and tight can't be manipulated and are easy to use. Check em out good price too...Steve O

I see the CGN sponsors, Bulls Eye London.com in ONT sell trigger locks made by Axiom, of which one model is the combination lock version which I would like to get.

Anyone here purchased "accessories" from Bulls Eye London before? Does purchasing a trigger lock from them require you to submit your PAL identification number???? I did a dry-run "checkout" for my shopping cart on their website and there are fields requesting your PAL ID, however, I don't know if this is only for purchase of firearms, magazine, and ammo, and not something benign as a trigger lock.

Yes. Do yourself a favour. Start with a combination lock, instead of buying a keyed model, forgetting the key one day and then buying the combo.

I bought Club brand locks on ebay.

You will find that the 1911 is easy to fit a trigger lock to because the guard is thin and a constant width. The hard guns to lock are the ones with varying trigger guard width (many revolvers) and the ones where parts of the receiver get in the way, such as AR-15's. I use the combination Master locks sold by Canadian Tire and others. They work fine on all the handguns I have and less well on the AR's.

Go combination, not keyed.

This is really the most important distinction. Everything else is minor detail after that.

Guys, as some have mentioned, the trigger locks may be trickier for models with varying trigger guards.

Has anyone here had difficulty finding a trigger lock that fits a Heckler & Koch 45 ACP 1911, or any of their other caliber models on account of their larger trigger guards to accommodate a gloved-hand? I was thinking my next handgun would be an H&K.

Ah yes. Those damned HK 1911's with their oversized trigger guards. Most trigger locks can be open by a 6 year old with a screw driver so who really cares how it fits? I put one on to comply with the law, otherwise I wouldn't even bother.

A shooter I knew had his tigger lock key on a chain attached to the case, used the argument that they only had to be locked nothing said about where the key should be. I keep mine on the club identity card.

Buy the one size larger ``Cheapo`` case and the six inch will fit just fine and with another as well.

Take care

Bob

canadian tire has 3 sizes of these cases in the tool box section, look just like the piano type, waterproof, had a sale on them earlier this spring

I have a couple of colt 1911's and I just turn the lock around so the larger surface from the bolt is facing forward so it doesn't get caught on the grip frame if that's what your worried about.ive done it with 3 types of locks. Remington and master lock keyed and a bulky combo lock.
