Trigger lock or cable lock?

BEST I have found are the "chamber" locks by omega. Technology Direct sells them, use em in all my handguns.

Have you tried the Omega revolver locks? I keep loosing the rubber tips on mine and have sent one dud back to Omega for replacement so far.

You have to shove the locking "key" down the barrel right? Any worry of damaging the barrel at all? Or is the key made of a weaker metal? Also, will there be any problems proving the lock exists if you were pulled over?

Check it out for yourself http://www.omegagunlock.com/index.html

The keys have a sub-caliber size plastic bushing on them so you won't be damaging anything inserting them. They basically prevent the chamber from being opened. I would assume not being able to open the gun should be proof enough. Dunno, haven't been challenged yet. As far as I am concerned it's locked, in a locked container, in a locked trunk.

Cool, thanks for the information. I checked out some of the YouTube video's they made, pretty innovative!

Correct! You have attached a "secure locking mechanism" to your firearm per the regulations and are good to go!

Lots of good discussion in the omega thread for those looking for more intel:

Plastic coated rod, can't hurt anything on barrel. The slide will not function, no way to make the gun go bang, pretty much covers it. I shoot with cops in the area all the time, they have seen them and a few of them use them on their own handguns so I'd pretty much say they are fully legal way of doing the lock..

Sorry I dont remember what brand they are and there is no ident on them. I bought a stack of them one day when I was shopping for other things. I can swing by and see if they still sell them or I can take a pic I guess. I'll try tomorrow

Thanks for the offer moosedude but I might go with the Omega's. I sent a PM to Technology Direct and their prices seem reasonable.

Locks

I have some Omegas now and they work fine. My preference was for the Visualock but despite appearances they are no longer available to my knowledge. Their web site will deadend on you. I really like the Visualock design because it fully locks the gun and is visible from a distance assuring you that the gun is safe. The Omegas appear just as functional but don't have the visibility feature.

+1 To omega locks and Technology Direct has to notch customer service. How could you not like a company that sends you Wherthers with every order?:D

This thread has a ton of pics and info about the locks as well as the letters from the RCMP:

*****And for the record I am not affiliated with either TD or Omega in any way other than being a happy paying customer*****

No one but me having issues with omega revolver locks? The plastic expansion ring split on one of mine, and I had to send it back for replacement. Also, I keep loosing the rubber nibs/nubs? (have been replacing them with a dab is silicon seal).

Also, my 45ACP lock is rather fickle to remove?

Because my Savage has an accu-trigger, I only trust a cable lock through the magazine well. A trigger lock depresses that trigger 'safety', and the rifle can still be loaded, the actual safety flicked off and potentially fired if dropped.

Edit: I just noticed what forum this was in, but the point is still valid. Sometimes cable locks are the better option.

Just satisfy the law in a way that will not mark/damage your firearm. None of them are really secure -- have a look at ht tp://download.security.org/gunlock_2007.pdf for a review? Personally I would not go with the zip ties, too easy to get challenged on it.
