trigger locks

Mine are in a safe by my bed, with loaded mags beside them, no trigger locks. Combo locks arent useless, they are perfect for appeasing the government. Nobody is going to steal them while they are in my trunk and I am driving.

I use combination locks, all set alike, for all my guns. This is a bad idea: as an experiment, I just ran the numbers 000 to 100 through one of my locks. It took three-and-a-half minutes. So any thief with half-an-hour's patience could unlock one of my guns, then use the same number for all the rest.

Let's face it: trigger locks are virtually useless. They exist to placate the powers that be, not to ensure safety.

Most gun safes, even the very expensive ones, are just as useless. There is a video floating around cyberspace that shows a man with a crowbar ripping a top name-brand rifle safe open in less than two minutes. (Can somebody post a link to this?)

Sorry, but unless you live in an old bank office with vault attached and keep your guns in a bankers' safe, your guns are vulnerable.

I thought this was common knowledge?

If it wasn't for the transport regs, I would carry my handguns to the range in the same manner as my non-restricteds, unlocked in an unlocked case for protection from handling damage. The safe at home is to keep my kids out and placate the powers that be regarding "safe storage" requirements.

The entire set of rules is ridiculous and useless. They are simply there to make gun ownership more difficult and encourage civilian disarmament. If someone wants your stuff, they will get it. The goal is to simply be a harder target than your neighbours. If that fails, that is what insurance is for. Sad fact of life, but it is still a fact.

Not to mention, if the thief has half an hour in your house, he would just take the guns with him. GET A SAFE:kickInTheNuts:

are they less bulky than the combo ones? and do they work on 1911 trigger?

ok, i have the $9.99/dozen type from Canada Ammo in my hands, and yes they work on a 1911. actually, they're GREAT for a 1911 since they have the fingers front and bottom PLUS there's a pin at the rear that engages most 1911 triggers and prevents them from moving back. so as long as your trigger has holes in it, those CA locks will engage very nicely.

not great on a Glock cuz the trigger guard is kinda thick. i'll find out how well they work on a revolver soon enough.

cheap. technically legal as far as i can tell. would work for when you need to ship a pistol. but engaging / undoing the long screw is a PITA.

how is the overall size compared to the classic combo lock?

Who sells these? I'm interested.

Canada Ammo. the 12-pack is $10 plus another $10 for shipping. they're simple, but seem effective and appease the legal requirements. the "key" they use is a simple stamped two-prong thing. i suppose if you hate the "key" idea, you can just replace it with a plain bolt of the same thread.

here's the pic from CA's site

do you have a picture of the key? or any other pictures of the lock?

ok, here ya go. one of those locks mounted on my Norc Commander. yes, the trigger guard is weird cuz it was square and a bench grinder took care of it.

pics added. yeah, that's as small as my camera will make them and i don't feel like resizing :p

I use the cheap locks from CT mostly keyed alike. It's a bit of a pain, but most of the time the keys stay in the lock while in the cabinet, so it makes it easy for the most part.

I would never scratch up my guns that bad to save $3 on a lock that I have to carry a key for...

the shaved trigger guard is not for the locks, silly boy! :p it's for fitting into a plastic holster and for looks (i hate the square guard). the trigger locks will fit a square guard too, as per my Glock.
