trigger mods to a 10/22

Just bought my son his first new 10/22 got it for a steal... now I'm going to keep it simple and close to factory accept for a KID firing pin & extractor which I see is a must have for overall function.

now for some of you that have done trigger work, I'm looking for a trigger that won't be too light for a youngster, lets say a smooth 3.5/4+ lb. pull anyone know of a hammer or sear kit that might fit this project.
 
The stock trigger works pretty good and it is just a rim fire not really ment for long range shooting i would just stick to the stock trigger group but thats just me.

Have you ever fired a stock 10/22?? They suck! The trigger pull must be around 8lbs.

I bought and installed a Volquartsen Match Hammer and Sear. It brought the trigger pull down to about 2 1/2lbs. That may be a bit much if you're looking for 3-4lbs, but check out hawteck arms. That is where I bought my kit and they have other kits available.
 
If your son is just starting to shoot, I'd keep it stock for the time being. I know the trigger is not the best, but it may be for the best. Even with a 4lb pull, he may get the shot off before he is ready. If you looking for simple, I'd go and get a Timney trigger setup. It's about a 3lb pull and works a hell of lot better than the stock OEM one. Install is an easy drop in and takes all of 5min.

I too installed the Vol. hammer & sear as well as a few other things from hawteck. Check for my thread on my experiences.

You're not going to find an aftermarket trigger in the 3-4lbs+ range. There is no demand for such a beast. Everyone wants 2.5 lbs or less. The only option would be to re-work the factory trigger.

Polishing the components and doing the JB Weld trick will make the trigger feel a lot better. But, be careful around the sear/hammer interface points. If this area is polished well, it will drop the trigger weight lower than what you want. Do it a little bit at a time until you get the trigger to the pull you want.

YOU ARE AN EVIL MAN! I remember telling my wife there was nothing I would do to my 10/22 because it was cool as is...

I also told her there was nothing I would do to my 336 XLR until somebody posted some cool aftermarket trigger and trigger assemblies you could get for it.

Radius the trigger plunger and polish the internals. All it cost me was 15 dollars for a role of sandpaper and about hour and a half of your time. Not only does it make your trigger smoother but because everything is polished and smooth it makes your rifle cycle smoother and I can cycle shorts now without problems.
 
guys thanks for the input, I'm not new to this game. I have built some high end 10/22 in my time and Dlask has one of mine right now. I went with Power Custom match kit for my 10/22. I'm just looking for the easy fix for my sons gun with out having to do the JB weld trigger job. also my son has been shooting pistols for 3 years now he is ok around guns.

anyone ever replace just the hammer and what was the outcome?
