Trigger Pull on a Beretta PX4?

I started shooting with a Beretta, but I'm not impressed with the PX4... was looking to get the .45 but it's just too expensive for what it is.

I would not recommend the PX4 unless you have a lot of money to waste and you already own a dozen better pistols. Sorry to the few Beretta fans on here but that's my opinion. I have about 4000 rounds through a PX4, never had a stoppage other than failures to feed which were attributed to old crappy mags that had been dropped on concrete a thousand times. Still the pistol feels cheap.
The trigger pull is too long. It seems that the trigger pull weakens as the pistol heats up. After 20 or 30 rounds the trigger pull seems more like 6 pounds. I am no firearms expert, maybe wicked has a theory?
Anyway, the PX4 is worth $550 tops, like it is priced in the States. Not worth anything near the $1000+ you will pay here.

From my own experience with both the 9mm & the .45 ACP the DAO isnt funny. Its long but not that heavy. Besides that they are just awsome and better than a Sig or a Glock in my opinion.SM

Funny thing about opinions. They don't have to be based on fact, common knowledge or experience. It's like if you really like the feel of a turd in your hand because it is nice and warm and soft, it's still is not a better choice than a Sig or a Glock because it is actually a piece of turd even if it is your opinion that it feels nicer to you. This is not a slam on Beretta's, just a slam on personal opinions based on nothing really. What exactly makes it awsome and better?

I've shot lots of DAO pistols and they all sucked. I've yet to find one that was worth shooting.

Please, for the sake of clarity, exactly what is it that sucks about DAO ? I would like to understand this line of thought. What do you prefer? Which ones have you tried?

DAO is s**t. Long, heavy, and not smooth at all.

I agree.

I would totally agree, I had the chance to compare both before buying a HK P30L DAO and the DA/SA and why anyone would chose the DAO trigger is a mystery to me.

Mystery to me too.

What sucks is the super long heavy trigger that feels like you could go away and make a sandwich before the trigger pull is complete and the gun goes off. I've tried lots of DAO pistols but they've always left a bad impression so I don't remember the exact models. Most memorable was a Sig - normally a fine pistol - ruined by the DAO trigger. DAO pistols are popular with police departments but not anywhere near as popular in the general public. I figure lots of shooters must feel the same way.

I like SA or DA/SA pistols. Striker fired pistols like the Glock are fine too. DAO trigger pull is just that much heavier and longer. Enough that I've never met one that I've liked. They seem pretty unpopular so I'm guessing most folks must prefer all the other actions over DAO. The triggers feel like a revolver not an auto. Kinda feels wrong to me. If you can recommend me a good one I'll give it a try. I'll try any gun if given the chance. If it's good I'll reverse my opinion.

I too did not like the trigger on any DAO pistol I have tried...except the Walther P99 DAO model....Anyone shot this ? I found it to be very nice for a DAO.

The trigger pull is very, very long and takes a great deal of getting used to. I've put a lot of rounds of FMJ, HP and lead round nose through several Px4's and have found them to be very reliable and accurate. It's a great gun for what it was intended for, which is holding 17 rounds and being lugged around for 12 hours a day, but not recreational shooting. Plastic guns are great to carry and steel guns are great to shoot. I'd go with a Sig or a 1911.

Trigger choices

This discussion is kind of like someone saying that a standard transmission is crap because they are constantly shifting gears and the clutch makes their leg tired. There is no way to say one type of action is generally superior to another type of action since they are designed for different purposes. I do not want to have law enforcement officers walking around with 2.5lb single action triggers. I also don't want to compete with a horrible long 7-12lb DAO trigger. However, I love revolver shooting so for me a LEM trigger in the H&K or the DAK trigger in the SIG are things of beauty. Light (4-5lbs) and smooth as butter. Reset is also relatively short and easy to get used to. I think the Glock probably has the best trigger in that category, but it does not suit my grip at all so no Glock for me.

It's more like saying I like a short throw shifter more than the long throw mushy gearbox on a delivery truck. If you like driving a delivery truck or do it for a living that's fine. I prefer something sporty because I'm doing this for fun.

I'm not a cop and most of the people who shoot are not police officers. None of us are allowed to carry concealed or open so it's not a big deal for us.

I enjoy shooting a revolver too. A S&W 686 with .38 spl in it feels like a .22 to me. Lots of fun. I have no problem shooting a gun that feels like a revolver as long as it's a revolver.

I like all the Glock pistols. If you don't like the grip try out the Gen 4 with new texture and removable back straps. Also try the slim grip .45 versions. Lots of fun.

Like all discussions here, they tend to stray quite far from the original question. There are some very good DAO's out there and the idea of DAO should not be discounted as a viable option. There is also some real crap out there regardless of personal brand preference. Experienced shooters here have given honest and very valid answers. These are more than just opinions. O P will have to filter through the BS to find the answer I guess.

This is the Internet. Everyone knows that no opinion has any worth but their own, no matter the background or experience of other posters.

:p

I don't mind DAO triggers on guns like M&P and Glock and most other striker fired guns (they don't know any better :p). but I have n interest in guns like a Sig, Beretta, HK that was originally designed as a DA/SA and later adopter as DAO. Why would I want that?
