trigger pull

A lot depends on the intended purpose. For tactical matches a pull of about 2.5 lbs may be just right but many BR or F Class shooters would consider that excessive whereas hunters may well prefer an even heavier pull weight. I have triggers as low a 6 oz depending upon application.
 
More important is the trigger be adjusted to be as consistent and as crisp as possible. The pull weight within reason is less important, as good scores can be shot with heavy and light triggers.
 
My TR rifles are still set at the 3.5 pound Bisley weight. I may lighten it up before the ORA Annual Matches and the DCRA CFRC. Smallbore rifle is set at 4 oz.
 
My iron sighted Target Rifle is around 4#.

I have a scoped Win. M70, which has the factory trigger on it set to the lowest safe pull weight (at a guess, sorta 2.5#-ish). Believe it or not, the factory trigger is plenty good at this pull weight or heavier (it can't be safely set to a much lower pull weight, so if you need or think you need a lighter trigger, you need to use an aftermarket trigger)

I have a couple of Savage 110s (one a plain Jane .30-06 hunting rifle, the other a .22-250 varmint rifle). Both have the older adjustable "non-Accutrigger" triggers. I have them set to about 2# pull weight and have reduced the sear engagement to make them crisp. At this sear engagement it is not possible for the safety to operate reliably, so I have disabled the safety (don't chamber a round until ready to shoot).

I have an Anschutz .22 match rifle. I used to have the trigger on it set as light as possible (perhaps 2 oz.?). More recently I have set it as heavy as possible, in order to be more like my fullbore rifles, but until/unless I change the springs in it "as heavy as possible" isn't very heavy at all, perhaps 6oz or so.
 
My competition BR rifles [where allowed] are set at 2 oz.
Both rimfire and centerfire the same.
Of course, for silhouette and certain restrictive classes of shooting,
the pull will be set to the required level.
Hunting triggers I like at 3 lbs, and crisp.
Nothing bugs me like "creep" in a trigger before it breaks.

My rem 700 is at 1lbs now and I love it, i really have a hard time with heavy triggers. Shooting at the range only it's working for me.
