Trigger replace/work on Stevens 200

Just wondering what people are doing with the brutal triggers on these rifles? What's offered for replacements? Has anyone had success with having a smith clean them up?

I think the rifle is a good value at around $300 but for what I would like to use it for, I'd want a good trigger.

Some of the feedback on the site here with Stevens 200 buyers is that they have sub 1" shooters right outta the box... Now does that suggest that they got ones with better triggers?

Maybe the solution to your dilema is to spend the extra $100 and get a new Savage rifle with the user adjustable "accu-trigger"?
 
Basix (119CND) and Tinmey(???) makes a trigger for the Steven200 also I believe SSS makes a trigger (90USD)as well. I'm think of just getting my current trigger tunned and save some money.

NAA Sub 1" is correct, Im using the stock trigger. I expect with a better trigger you could shrink the group by a bit. Is it worth it, maby depends what the shooter wants. I used to get SUB 1" with my heavy M98 trigger. I diddn't mind at all.
 
Nothing wrong with the old Savage triggers... same thing on the Stevens.
If you want an affordable rifle with an adjustable trigger that shoots sub-MOA groups... you can always buy a Tikka T-3.

Yeah, but when are they going to offer the T-3 with a nice wood stock?? :confused: :p
 
If the stevens trigger is the same as Savage pre-accutrigger it is very adjustable. Plenty of 'sites show how, do a google.

I have adjusted some 200 Triggers and they do go down to about three pounds same as the old savage's.They break clean i have not had any issues with them.
 
I was able to adjut my Stevens triggers down to 4 lbs, according to my trigger pull scale.

They wold not work if adjusted lower.

Not bad, but not as god as a "real' trigger:D

Red, you should know by now how many T3's I own!:D

$300 vrs. $700

I'm considering a 200 for a under 7lbs walk around yote gun that I can ugly up with some white spray paint and keep from selling one rifle to buy another.

As for the Stevens triggers I believe the rifle is built on the Savage 110 action so most 'smiths will be familiar with the trigger and can smooth them out. As others have mentioned, any aftermarket for the Savage 110 should work as well. Considering the rifle is made for a certain price point and is built on a proven, versatile action, you can't really go wrong with them. I expect in the coming years we'll be seeing quite a few of them on the gun show tables with all sorts of interesting "modifications"!

I tries playing with my 200 trigger this week-end... I f"/$% it up :mad:

Actually, there's no sear adjustment for the stevens as there was for the old savage. You can play with pull though. While unmounting mine, I bent the safety spring and now the safety doesn't work... Trigger is fine at about 3-4 lbs. I haven't even fired a round and I have to go to gunsmith for repair:( unless somebody has an idea...
Next time i'll just take it there first thing. I can't wait to take that thing out. Quite a solid action for a 300$ rig...
