This past summer I developed a TTSX load for both my adult kid's who both own .308s that they hunt with. I went through Dan Newberry's OCW process and found them both a load that shoots well but I couldn't help but notice how heavy the triggers are in both rifles. When my son got his Axis, before it was even shot, I did the spring shortening method to reduce the trigger pull but it's still far too heavy for my liking. I was concerned about cutting too much of the spring off. My daughter's Howa 1500 has a heavy trigger pull, as well, and not adjustable. I'm sure both are between 4-5 pounds and have too much creep.

Any suggestions on how you'd reduce the trigger weight of either of these two rifles? I know Timney triggers are excellent ,,,,just not sure they'd want to drop that much money into getting one for their rifle,,,,or me. Any other means to modify the trigger? I know there's a lighter spring kit you can get for the Axis (about $20) but are we talking junk here? Are there other triggers out there you'd recommend?

Maybe if I could find something reasonable I'd do it for them as a Christmas gift. Or maybe I should just leave well enough alone,,,,they got 5 animals between them ,,,,son: 3 deer, daughter: a moose and a deer this hunting season.

Putting money in these entry level firearms is a waste IMHO , they have served their purpose and will continue to do so . Much better to invest in stepping up

I am a slow learner, but hate to give up on a project. Started with an Axis in 22-250. Replaced the factory trigger with a Timney, and re-stocked with a Boyd’s prairie hunter. Bedded it and set some mid-range glass on it. It’s now a pleasure to shoot, and much more accurate. Of the 3 upgrades, the trigger was the most worthwhile. My 2 cents.
