As per the title I`ve been fighting the urge to pick up a new trigger for my AR15 for a while but there is just no way around it - its heavy and has a sharp edge that I don't like

So I`ve done some homework on here (via the sticky and a few other places) and have narrowed it down to the following pair:

1) Timney AR15 curved - single stage, adjustable down to 2lbs and well made (stainless)

2) Geiselle SSA-E curved - 2 stage, non adjustable and gets great reviews

My own trigger is single stage so I know what thats like but how does the 2 stage compare? What are the pros/cos?

Please feel free to chime in with any considerations I may have missed

I tried someones DD with the Timney drop in at the range yesterday and it was light and crisp, very nice.

If you want a light trigger, keep in mind the second stage of the SSA-E is like 2 lbs I think (?) A 2 lbs single stage doesn't seem right for an AR15, even a target model.

I think you have made a good point (bear in mind I`ve never experienced a 2 stage)

SSA-E description from Geissele:

The Geissele Super Semi-Automatic Enhanced (SSA-E) Trigger is a finely-tuned semi-automatic-only version of our full-auto, two stage combat trigger presently used in the U.S. Special Operations Community. Built on the chassis of the Geissele SSA, the SSA-E provides enhanced trigger control and weapon accuracy while maintaining the robustness and reliability of our combat-proven two-stage trigger. The SSA-E’s reduced 1st and 2nd stage pull weights result in a trigger with a smooth, light 1st stage take-up and a crisp, candy cane-like 2nd stage break. The SSA-E is ideal for use in precision Squad Designated Marksman type rifles where weapon accuracy and reliability are critical and a non-adjustable drop in trigger is desired.

Certainly sounds like I don't need/want a 2 stage for an AR application

Forgot to ask - was it the straight or curved variant you tried?

Never tried a straight trigger - is it really that much different/better or is it purely personal preference?

It all depends on what kind of shooting you're doing with the rifle.
I have a SSA in my SA20. I mostly do service rifle and bench shooting with it. It's an awesome trigger.
I have a S3G in my Stag. Use it for 3 gun and general blasting. It's an awesome trigger too.

Single Vs 2 stage is like Apples to Oranges. You need to decide on what the purpose of the rifle is before you settle for a trigger.

Geissele SSA is what you want if the AR is to be used for "run and gun" purposes. SSA-E is light.

2 stage works just fine.

It was the curved model. The ergos felt good.

I have a flat faced trigger in my M&P and I really like it. I would be tempted to try a flat faced in my AR build.

Geissele > Timney

i have a SSA-E in my DD and a G2S in my SBR. both are great triggers but the SSA-E is just slightly better.

It won't be precision - this will be fitted to a 7.5" AR15

This is whats caught my eye: clicky

Super adjustable and made of stainless (probably last longer than me) - impressive specs

Fact its a forum sponsor who has 20% off this weekend helps too.....

Find what you like;
- Single stage
- Two stage

Then decide what weight pull you desire.

Most guys will tell you the SSA/E trigger/s are the gold standard. Many would agree, including guys that use them for work, and "been there, done that." Barrel length doesn't necessarily decide what trigger you install.

Happy hunting.

Recently swapped my S3G for a SDE. I'm a big fan of the flat trigger bow and love the SDE pull weight. Definitely not too light for everyday use.
