Hello All,
I have owned a Trijicon ACOG model TA01-NSN for well over 15 years...more likely pushing closer to 20 years. It has been awesome in every regard as far as I have been concerned and I have never had a single issue with it. As per normal, the tritium faded with time to the point where I wanted it recharged so some time ago I made an inquiry directly with Trijicon on how to go about getting it serviced and the tritium reticle tuned up?
They responded that they needed the model and serial number of my optic and then they would provide me with a return authorization number and detailed instruction on how to send it to them for warranty repair/service at no cost to me aside from shipping it to them. They said they'd have it for about 2 weeks or so depending on how busy their service centre was at the time...and that it would be returned for me via pick up care of a local Calgary Trijicon dealer (CSC in this case) as they could not ship it back to me at a private residential address due to customs, etc. - it had to be shipped back to a licensed dealer. No big deal. I completed the form(s) and the paperwork was submitted. Trijicon issued a RA number with all the details (model and serial number) of my optic. I packaged my ACOG up and shipped it insured to Trijicon in the US. All great, no issue for me.
About 3 months goes by, and I had heard nothing from them aside from an email acknowledgement that they received my optic for service earlier on along that timeline. So, I decided to send Trijicon an email inquiring as to the status of the service and of my optic. Nothing back. Two-three more weeks goes by and still no response. So I followed up again this past weekend requesting follow up to my follow up and the status of where things are at with my ACOG.
Trijicon calls me today saying that there is a problem. The model of ACOG I sent them is an ITAR'd product and they can't send it back to me without the proper export permit details - ie) LE or Military credentials. Funny, there was never any mention of this prior to me sending it to them. She even said on the phone today that it was her fault, she missed that detail.
What, if any, options do I have to get this optic back to me, the guy that has owned it for going on 20 years???
If I can't get it back (by far my biggest preference), what should I expect from Trijicon in compensation?
Looking for any advice from people who know/have actual experience in this kind of thing.
Thanks in advance,
Shooster
