trimming barrel

Brownells sells a wide variety of beads, buy a tap to suit at the same time (and a drill if you don't have one they are usually number drills as opposed to fractional)

470mm is 18.5".
"Prohibited firearms include...rifles and shotguns that have been altered by sawing or any other means so that their barrel length is less than 457mm (about 18 inches) or their overall length is less than 660mm (about 26 inches)".
The regulations are readily available for anyone who wants to check them. Semi auto centrefires are a special case because of the 18.5" lower limit for non-restricted classification.

Remember that the 18- 18 1/2" is from the bolt face, don't cut too short,
something I have done about the bead is to put some masking tape on the barrel where your new bead will be BEFORE you cut the barrel, then mark cente of reciever top and use a streight eage from thet mark to each side
of the front bead still on the barrel and mark the tape at the new point,
small center punch mark at center of the two matks and it will be right on.
