Hello.

My spotting scope works well (goes to 45x) but stereo vision might be nice..

I wish to buy a pair of high magnification binos and use them for spotting, so they will have to be able to be mounted on a tripod.

Anyone have any suggestions for models and brands?
Money is limited, so thinking Bushnell etc..

Thanks in advance.

Roo.

I've been using binoculars for spotting bullet holes but only when shooting iron sight military surpluses at ranges up to 150 yards. At these ranges holes in black can be seen with good 10x42 Bushnells. Any further, binos are useless, unless you have some high end marine 20x glass, but this will set you back as much as a good spotting scope.
I'm not using a tripod. My binos don't have a mounting hole and I find them very convenient laying beside on the shooting table. BTW, Bushnell makes a tripod adapter which is cheap and can be used on most of their high magnification scopes.
For scoped rifles at these short ranges, using the scope is faster, easier and, as a rule, they have better resolution.
So my advice is to use the same binoculars you use for hunting (8x or 10x) and forget the tripod. Tripods are good for lengthy observations. And don't toss your spotting scope.

high mag binos

Celestron make high magnification binoculars and they all come with a tripod mount. You can get 15 X 70, 20 x 80 and 25 x 100. Usually binoculars that are more powerful than these will cost you in the thousands. FS

I think it comes down to a question of what the OP is spotting.

I could see a set of 12 or 15 power binos on a tripod sitting with me on the side of a hill if I were going to scan a valley for a few hours.

There is a fantastic bincular made specifically for this: Vortex Kaibabs

I don't have a set of Kaibabs, but I do run a lot of different things off of my tripod, including binos. Take a look:

Cool stuff.
I noticed the young feller wearing a scarf/boa/kerchief and it
set in motion a thought for me.
Those harmonica holders.
Just think if you alter it a bit, would it not work for binos?
Make a hinge point on it so it could be swung out of your face.
What can I say, it's sunday early a.m.
Just a thought......
