Tripod suggestion?

I use the piece of crap tripod that I long ago replaced with a good one for my D-SLR camera. Unless you want it to still be standing after you accidentally shoot your chrony, any tripod that is high enough for your convenience is fine. Walmart might be a good source.
 
Anyone? I see ones on Kijiji and used ottawa in the $20-$40. Seems reasonable enough. I was thinking going that route. How do they attach to the tripod?

You shouldn't have to spend more than $30 on a brand new tripod at your local camera store - cheaper at Walmart ($20). The chronographs attach to your tripod via the standard screw-threads that the hotplate would use.

Yes this will work, but I prefer to spend more and get more, weight that is. Doesn't take much of a gust to blow over a light weight inexpensive tripod. FS
 
I ran into a problem attempting to set up my Oehler sky screens on my wife's Manfrotto tripod. The Oehler uses 3 sky screens which normally fit on a length of solid conduit which then is mounted to the tripod. The silly thing acted like a wind vein and spun around with every little breeze. I solved the problem by abandoning the tripod altogether. Now I mount the sky screens in a steel fence post which has holes an inch O/C and the angled channel is a perfect match for the shape of the sky screen bases, then "beam" is set in the jaws of a Workmate. Now the wind can blow all it wants, and my screens stay pointed down range.
 
I just use the tables at my range. They say that they are not target stands, and I figure so long as I don't shoot the chrony (or the table), I'm in compliance with that rule. If I had to use a tripod, I'd just use the cheapest one I could find, the fans don't give wind gusts that badly.
 
IMO a cheapo tripod is all thats needed for a chrony. If its light, hang a weight. Save your decent tripod for spotting scope.
