Sitting, with your elbows inside your knees doesn't even come close to it. This is far more stable if you limit your contact with the rifle to a minimum. The rifle is supported completely by the rest and the point of aim is fine tuned with the pistol grip head. All you are doing is squeezing a trigger and absorbing the recoil. You can do it the benchrester way and not touch the rifle except for the squeezing the trigger with your index finger and a thumb behind the trigger guard.

Just curious to see and know how it would work at our game (ORA and DCRA NSCC PR matches), otherwise, I will just keep my existing Velbon Mini tripod.

Yep, used it all season, but only with the spotting scope. Carry in the side pocket of my ruck sac. Last year Kam did have a mover stage that it could have been used on with the rifle rest. He sometimes deviated a bit from the NSCC program...
I took a pieced of 4x2x0.25 aluminum channel, drilled and tapped it for the Manfrotto adapter plate. Also put holes for the alignment pins on the plate. Then I wrapped closed-cell foam over it and made a cover out of OD Green Cordula. The channel and the foam were chosen so that my A5 fits snugly in it.

Standing, sitting, kneeling, semi-prone on uneven terrain... the possibilities are endless. But yes, it works very nicely from a standing position for shooting over waist-high vegetation, fences or other obstacles.

That tripod is not going to be sturdy enough. Go to a camera shop and check out the various tripods. You will notice that there is a world of difference between the cheep ones and the more expensive ones.

I received a PRS system for Christmas. My range reopens this weekend. I can't wait to try it out. Not as fancy as the Hog, but pretty light and simple. I haven't used it yet, but PRS has a very good reputation. Do a search on the 'Hide, there is a lot written about tripods.

I also have a cradle from PRS and use it on a Manfrotto 190 XPROB tripod with the 222 joystick. As stated not as fancy but very well made. Both the cradle and the tripod are very solid. I had a McBros Tac 50 in the cradle and it was solid as a rock. Danel Jenkins who makes them is a leo in Texas and also a former marine sniper.
$275 for the Hog Saddle alone!!!
I got a wicked deal through a group buy done during Christmas. A lot of cash but an excellent bit of gear worth every penny. Holds it right solid in place with the urethane(sp?) pads. Can have it preset at any angle and just need to move one strap if you want to have free movement on the tripod. Best of both worlds. Will try get some pics of it in use.
Can also use a front strap to load the tripod in a similar fashion as pushing on a bipod if you are looking for a more rigid rest. Strap from the front of the stock to the center of the tripod, push forward on the front leg while loading the rear of the stock.
