tritium vs fibre optic

i dont like the black front and back site on my new 1911, front needs to be replaced by either tritium of fibre optic. which is better? btw gun is going to be used for IDPA

If you're just looking for contrast try painting a white dot on the back side of the front sight as a test to see if it is enough for you.

If it is then a white dot or fiber sight would be my suggestion. The tritium sights glow in the dark but if you normally shoot in decent light then you won't see any advantage at all. A fiber sight, on the other hand, really lights up nicely in subdued but OK lighting conditions. I love the fiber front on my Shadow, It seems to just leap into the U on its own. I've tried some pistols with white dots and they are pretty nice but in my book second best to the fiber front and plain back.

BCRider summed it all up pretty well. As long as you're not shooting at night or in dark places, the need for tritium just isn't there.

Tritium sights present as three dot sights in the light, maybe not as clear but similar. A fiber front can help with speed. I think theres at least one manufacturer that makes a hybrid fiber/tritum sight - if you have deep pockets.

TruGlo TFO (tritium/fibre optic) sights - best of both worlds! Not too much more than regular night sights either.

I had a set on my USP and they were AWESOME. I believe TSE carries the line.

Sight Height

If you are thinking of changing just the front sight, get a replacement that is the same height and width as the original. If you don't, you will probably have to replace the rear sight as well. This happened to me with a Norinco 1911 A1.
