Trophy Room......Finally Finished......Last Pics

You need to do an addition, a new wing off that room and take up bird hunting next. ;)

Hey Spank.......don't know about an extra wing on the house but I wouldn't mind coming over and killing some geese with you. I have to ashamedly say, I have never shot a goose.............I know, I know..........just never had the opportunity and never knew anybody with the gear to hunt them. I had it all arranged a couple years back with the dad of one of my son's buddies here. Big time goose and duck hunter, excellent trap shooter...........then later that summer he had some marital problems and decided to end it all.......permanently........
I even traded for a 10 Ga Ithaca SA and got a couple boxes of shells.............now just point me at them geese..........

Actually I lie......I shot several Egyptian geese in Zim, but in my opinion geese that land and nest in trees don't count. Besides they just don't have the impressiveness of a big old Canada gander.

Thanks for your response C-FBMI, cool to see the variation in all the species.

I could stand around asking what species the animals are all day. Any plans for the hippo??

Looks like you've got the "Small Five" sorted out there.

edit - I see you are past that and looking towards the Tiny Ten. Perhaps a .270 Win would be sufficient for that caliber of quarry.

I bet a nice sxs 12 ga would be fun on those tiny guys. Be like shooting jack rabbits

You are :welcome: any time Douglas. Always good to have an extra set of legs when you're setting out 45 dozen Snow Goose decoys! There is always room and an extra blind or two. Bring Looky with you too, he could use a bit of a goose edumakayshun!! ;)

Well KMG, it's like this............I hunted the Congo with a guy by the name of Gert Saaiman (spelling ?), a name you may recognize as being quite a notorious crook in RSA and Mozambique. I was unaware of this at the time and a friend had hunted with him 6 or 7 times and highly recommended him.
Anyway the first 2 blue duikers I shot with a shotgun coming to the call.........and of course the shot goes where you're looking and guess where I was looking........not much left to mount, excellent eating though. Third one I did much better and had a good cape and horns..........however along with my yellow back and Peiters duiker and my gorgeous 32" Bongo, he left them in the back of a truck in Brazzaville for 5 months where they rotted..........hence I have shot 3 blue duikers and have no mount to show for it.

c-fbmi, this story just went from bad to worse when I read about the Bongo. What a shame .... Yeah, I have heard of Gert, gives the business a bad name ....

We hunt our Blue duikers with the shotgun as well as with a call and sometimes dogs. Almost sorry I asked for the story now and you most definitely have my empathy.

Yep KMG..............pretty bitter taste in my mouth after that fiasco. Next time I'm over there I may have to pay Mr. Saaiman a visit to discuss the monies paid for the services and product received. I know where he lives and I have several acquaintances there that would assist me finding him if he has moved.

PMing for some info......

Most of a lifetime A-zone..........the oldest mount in there was taken when I was 19, I'll be 61 next month.........

As far as it being almost full, well hell I call that good planning..........not gonna be many more to hang given my age, a penguin or two :d:d, maybe a life mount Big Red 'Roo and a couple others. Should work out perfectly..........

I knew a taxidermist who had a two story open concept house. Second story was a half floor so viewed from the main floor entrance you had this wide open view to the roof. When you looked up there was a flock of a dozen Canada Geese in a v-formation pointed southward. There wasn't an available space that didn't have some kind of mount and all animals he'd taken himself. Judging by the time and materials invested I suspect had you taken up taxidermy you'd have spent just as much money because you'd have 5X the number of mounts and would require a home with that much more space. He hadn't even been to Africa and his place was packed. When I last spoke with him several years ago he had just purchased a 458 win mag and was headed for Africa for his next adventure.

Wen I was a kid working for taxiderms and trapping I was Aways getting in trouble for having Dead critters in the freezer drove my mom crazy lol
