Douglas, I don't mean to rub salt into an open wound...but could you provide a link to the thread that explains the bongo thing with which everyone but me appears to be familiar? Serious question, no "skasskastizm"

Don't know how to do that jjohn.........I hunted with an unscrupulous guy in the Congo and after my hunt they booted him out of the country, for not being able to "play well" with others particularly if their skin was a darker color than his. So he vacated the country and left my trophies and a couple others in the back of a truck in Brazzaville to rot. So I never got any of my trophies from my Congo hunt, the bongo, yellow backed duiker, blue duiker and peiters duiker.........gone except for photos. Somewhat of a let down to say the least, to hunt the most elusive trophy antelope in the world and successfully take a gorgeous 32"er only to have it lost to a jerk of an operator.
He came highly recommended to me by a friend in the Yukon who had hunted with him 6 or 7 times, so I didn't check him out any further...........But I believe in Karma so it'll all work out in the end.
This was him..........as bongo go I guess he's close to a monster......
This was my yellow back duiker (the largest of the duiker clan) and a very elusive trophy as well.
And my blue duiker, which I believe is the smallest of the duiker clan.
And finally my Peiters duiker, I have no idea where they fit in the duiker scheme of things, but he made the mistake of coming to the call when we were calling for blues...

Man, that hurt just to read about it. I guess disasters like that are inevitable if you go on enough trips; the law of averages will eventually bite you on the ass. At least you have the memories (and, once they fail, the photos!). Speaking of which: are you planning to put up framed prints in your trophy room some of your trophy shots? This one (the Bongo) deserves to be enlarged and framed and given a place of honour.Mars, thanks for the photo, but I know what a Bongo is...I didn't think he was shooting a set of drums!
I just didn't know about the horror story associated with Douglas' hunt.

Sorry to hear about experience you had concerning some of your trophies. My Daughter and Son In Law spent a month hunting in Africa a few years back and experienced a somewhat similar set of circumstances with some of trophies.
It's extremely unfortunate that your bongo and other trophies were lost. One unscrupulous outfitter can destroy another person's "hunt of a lifetime". You hear about these parasites and trust other people not to steer you wrong when choosing an outfitter.
Still, you got some great photos of the trophies. Consider having them printed using a colour plotter and dry-mounting them on "Gator-board". I've had excellent success with poster-sized enlargements (30"x 48") which can do justice to a rare image.

Yep, a blow up is a possibility, but I'm still hoping to go back and do it again for the real thing...........we'll see.......Congo is a hunt I really enjoyed, the weather wasn't oppressive and the jungle was extremely cool, lots of stuff I'd never seen before and I never got a crack at a sitatunga or a red forest buff, nasty little buggers...........All I need now is another bucket full of money............But the wifey want's a new kitchen and another bathroom..........another bucket full of money......

Hey 'Looky and Pete, this is the carving you were asking about as well as a pencil drawing I really like.......It's titled "Imminent Danger", but I call it "OH SH!T".......and then there is the last photo of the room which I omitted in the last batch.

I have a question that may have been asked and answered already. If so, I apologize.
Did you have to take any special measure when building as far as wall studs etc? The weight of those mounts must be significant.
Again, sorry if this has been answered. I read as many of the posts as I could but didn't see the answer.

And, much like another Brad on this forum, in exchange, I will give you gobs of unsolicited reloading advice as it's obvious to me that you need it...... (ok, that was tongue in cheek as you have more bottles of powder and die sets than the amount of cartridges I have stuffed).......

SO308......The walls are sort of themed, the big wall is all Africa, the end wall is all sheep and goats and the wall over the bar is all antlered game. As far as corresponding murals, I love the idea but can't find anyone to do them and I most certainly do not have the talent...........

I will reiterate the standing invite to all CGN'rs in or passing through the area to feel free to stop in and take a look see and spend a couple days if you're so inclined..........have beds and grub and scotch and trophy room and guns to shoot and my own private range...........have a firepit outside and plenty of wood if the weather co-operates. Always looking for good gun and hunting conversation......not a lot around the neighborhood...........
