trouble replacing a spring on the shadow

I followed those same instructions - and broke the mag.break :(

These instructions are for older spring-type mag.break - you have a newer solid break. Remove the top pin from the break, and the rest becomes easy...
 
Did it really come with solid brake?
Post a pic if you can. You were supposed to take the lower pin out while keeping preassure on the spring plug.

Look at the thickness of the solid break:

You have to float the top pin or else:

See the 'broken break'? LOL

I checked the American Gunsmithing Video on CZ-75 - they also float the top pin, even though they have the original spring break, not a solid one. This just makes sense: you see a pin - you remove it. Instead of thinking, I was dumb enough to follow the instructions off the Net... :redface:
 
Hopefully it's just a surface crack or you'll be looking for a new one.

First off the spring in the grip is the MAINspring and not the recoil spring. The recoil spring is the one in the slide unit under the barrel.

I don't recall if I read the web instructions for that part or not but to me it was instantly obvious from the wedging action that there was no way to remove the mainspring plug with the magwell separator in place. It's too bad that you had to find this out the hard way. But let this be a lesson that if you feel that you're forcing something too much on a gun that it is very likely that you're doing something wrong or out of sequence. If it feels wrong then stop and study the situation.

To get the separator out you push out the pin at the top edge of the separator and then just work it out of the lower slot. Once it's out of the way push inwards on the mainspring plug by holding the frame and pushing against the edge of your bench (that's what worked for me with the stronger stock spring) while pushing out the pin holding the plug in place.

Once the shift to a lighter mainspring is done you can just push the plug in with finger pressure to relieve the tension on the retaining pin.

Exactly. Not thinking & just blindly trying to follow the instructions was pretty embarrassing afterwards. I'm not very strong physically, but I should have realized what I was doing was wrong. Oddly enough, I did manage the disassembly, the separator broke when I was forcing it back afterwards.

Luckily, the separator is still functioning, and the new part is only $12, so the lesson learned wasn't too expensive...
 
Yep looks like the one I have, I tried a few times then I just left it a lot thank god lol.
