Word on the street back East here is that alot of lads are having problems with Vortex scopes(viper, diamondback and crossfire)
Seems a few dealers have even stopped carrying them!!

You boys hear anything about it out your way??

Nope. I'm looking at increasing my stock of them.

Hopefully all the other dealers catch wind of this rumor and drop them :p More sales for me.

So what brand of scope do you sell?

you must have taken a wrong turn to get to that street. U-turn immediately lol.

I've heard nothing but great things on these scopes. I saw a test run (somewhere in the threads) on two models (can't remember which ones - hunting scopes though) - where they immersed them in water for 24 hours - no fogging or haze - then they froze them - mounted them on a magnum rifle and shot five rounds with no loss of zero.........I was impressed...

I wouldn't hesitate - may pick up a Sparc - but probably a Strikefire for the AR :D (and I'll probably pick it up from Farmboy!!! - again, nothing heard but great things there too!)

What I have heard is that Vortex have played a bit of a dirty trick. They brought out scopes made by a quality manufacturer in Japan by the name of Light Optical Works (LOW). LOW make scopes for Weaver, the Bushnell Elite line, Clearidge, components for Nightforce, and potentially Leupold. Not surprisingly they have gained good reviews for those LOW manufactured scopes.

But in the last few months they have switched suppliers of their scopes The Viper and Diamondback are now coming out of an unknown manufacturer in the Philippines. The Crossfire always was a cheap scope out of China. Going to a third world supplier obviously cuts their purchase costs big time. But, what does it also do for quality? The problem is that Vortex have no optical expertise. They are totally dependent on buying scopes from suppliers. Some are naive enough to think there is no change as long as the Vortex name is on the tube. Yep! and your cheque is in the mail...

And no I don't sell scopes. I just stay informed so I can determine the difference between the good stuff and the knock offs.

LMAO!!

Seriously??

I guess companies play dirty little tricks all the time. You'll be hard pressed to find any brand name that hasn't switched suppliers or manufacturers before.

It's done all the time.

Good companies don't play dirty tricks like this. Since you seem to be a supplier of these Vortex scopes, can you enlighten us? Can you point to a press release where Vortex announced why they would stop using LOW and identify who the new supplier in the Philippines is? And further, what are the qualifications of this supplier in Philippines, and why should we trust them to make a good quality scope?

Already commented in the other thread you just posted in but I'll comment on specifics.

As you seem to be well aware of, manufacturers are given specifications to follow. It comes down to the company to do follow up QC.

A press release on why the switch? Very few companies issue press releases on switching manufactures. As I said good companies switch suppliers all the time when another company provides the same product at a better price or faster.........

Could be a ton of reasons like lead times, price and service as well as others.

Qualifications of the manufacturer? Well here is how I see it; if I use a supplier that sucks and I still offer the lifetime warranty, I'm going to get screwed big time. So seeing as how Vortex has been around for a few years, I think they are probably qualified to decide on if their supplier is good enough.

I also don't look that deep into my suppliers. If they provide a service, product and price that keeps me and my clients happy, then we're all happy. I do know a number of them that have switch suppliers as well, without a press release. Exact same product.

Burris Fullfield II's were made in Japan and then they switched to the Philippines. I have one of each. I can't tell the difference, although I can see slight differences in the exteriors of the scopes and the appearance of the reticles. The Phillipine model seems to be just as good.

More anti Vortex posts from a guy who doesn't own one. Hmm Toyota now makes cars in Canada instead of Japan. Man what a dirty trick. VW now makes cars in Mexico instead of Germany, followed by GM and Chrysler. Dirty dirty dirty. Sony used to make all its electronics in Japan. Now they only make $3000 cameras there. I wonder why that is..Maybe because of people always wanting to pay less and get the same product. Only way you can get the same product is assemble it elsewhere to save costs. Kinda makes sense since my Viper scope has same or better glass than a Leupold that costs double, or a Sightron that I paid $250 more for.

I'd like to see the press release showing that older Vortex models were made by LOW. I've had a Viper for years (probably before 99% of the people on this board ever heard of 'Vortex') and mine is made in the Philippines, apparently in the same optical factory that makes Nikon Monarchs.

If you're looking for a company playing 'dirty tricks', look no further than Leupold.

Not sure what difference it makes if any at all where their made as long as the quality is there and backed .

Can you back up your statement "in the last few months they have switched suppliers of their scopes The Viper and Diamondback are now coming out of an unknown manufacturer in the Philippines" with some proof by chance ?

MFG do it all the time
millet moved from mexico to china when bushnell took them over.
Now the scope bases are so far out of spec its unreal, but the scopes have improved?
Weird but true!
For me its about how the company stands behind the product not where its made.
Its nice to see products made in the 1st world, but its hard to get people to pay the price.

I think you should buy a new Viper PST and send it to me for extensive testing and evaluation. Together we shall debunk this myth once and for all! :p

My four year old Viper 6.5-20X50 BDC has been on several rifles, a 22-250, 25-06, 260, 270, and a 338 Lapua. It held it's zero on every rifle, killed multiple coyotes and a couple of antelope, shot lots of respectable groups out to 500 yards, but it must be crap because it was made in the Phillipines. I think I will throw it into the garbage now because some internet "expert" heard from a seemingly reliable source that Vortex played a dirty trick on all of us and switched manufacturers a few months ago.

Thank you for saving us all from those nasty evil people at Vortex!

A review on snipers hide of the Vortex PST 6-24x50 FFP MIL/MIL.
