Troubleshooting a Trailboss load for Pedersoli Sharps.

I just noticed you are using Hornady brass. That's shorter than standard 45-70 brass so you will have problems with some brands of crimping die as they are based on standard length 45-70 brass cases. I read some people used a 45lc crimp die, but that didn't work for me so for Hornady 45-70 brass, I use a Hornady 45-70 crimp die. Put's on a good solid crimp for me.
45-70 lists a .458 bullet while .45 Colt calls for .452 so crimping dies for one will be somewhat wrong for the other.

Yes, I reload both. I could adjust the 45 Colt RCBS roll crimp die down to a point where it would take out the case flair, but it didn't give the roll crimp I wanted. Something I read in one of the forums and decided to test. I just kept the Hornady brass aside and ran those as a separate batch once I got a Hornady 45-70 die set.

I reload ~2k rounds of 45-70 a year for our range as well as for my own Sharps replica & Pedersoli Shadow. It's easier to keep the standard length brass for the range and reload the shorter Hornady brass for myself and the staff.
