Troy 102 review

Hi!! Joining the other people to thank you for the review! Well done!

I'm currently looking for an AR10, and I'm still hesitating between the BCL102, Troy102 and Stag10.

Based on the overall comments, I'd go with the Stag, but the price tag is a bit high, so it's the big question: should the wait to get more money worth it given my usage (punching holes in a piece of paper)?
Does the BCL would be an arror on long term (again, given my usage)?
Then I "discovered" the Troy, but it is still really new in the market...

Looing forward for a long term review of it :)

Right now, given the great rebates on some sites, it is relly tempting to buy a BCL for a "cheap" price, but I don't want it to be a newbie mistake, ending with a gun worth > 1000$ to be left in the safe.

My 2 cents on the comment made in this thread about the election: even tho they mentionned the AR15, reading the text, it indicates that targetted rifle would be semi automatic ones. So, I'm also worried about the fact that they might extend to anything that is semi auto, no matter the caliber...

If you are looking at the 3 of them, go with the Stag, all day, everyday. That gun is far superior in every aspect. It's more expensive, but the warranty is fantastic (and responsive) and the parts compatibility with other DPMS pattern AR10s is great.

I think it really depends what you want. In my opinion if you are buying a complete rifle, the Troy 102 is a bit better since it is mechanically just as good and comes with slightly better rail and stock (but that's my opinion). The Troy is also slightly cheaper.

However if you want to build a rifle the Troy 102 does not come as a receiver set so the Stag is the clear winner for that

[SUP][/SUP]Definitely worth it now, even more if second hand. You can build one of these with a proof barrel cheaper than most decent stag 10 builds. Also if you convert to USD, the only AR10s in that price range are S&W, DPMS and PSA.

Doesn’t the Superlative Arms gas block both restrict gas pressure and bleed off gas pressure depending on the position of the adjusting screw? Just asking as I keep hearing about the bleed off.

On my 102 it is tricky to lock bolt manually. Need to press very hard and locking not reliably.

Is it the same with yours?

It is supposed to both restrict or increase gaz pressure depending on ho far the adjustment screw is in (obvisouly) and bleed off excess gaz. From what I have tested, the bleed off feature is somewhat negligible in my opinion, adjusting the screw is what really does the job and, if you tune it just right, in addition with the Armaspec captive recoil spring and VG6 brake, you can get remarkably low recoil for a 30 cal.
I managed to test it in the US, therefore without mag limit (ATF had no idea what a "Troy 102" was), she is heavier than an AR15 (duh) but if they release stripped uppers, I am definitely making one with a pencil profile 14.5 or 16" barrel to ligthen it and use it as my main competition rifle.

Mine does not have this problem though the safety lever was very hard, when I changed the grip the spring was kinda stuck and decompressed all of a sudden so maybe you have a similiar issue.
Overall it looks like Troy went a bit crazy on spring strength.
