Hello everyone. I recently received a rear Troy folding battle sight for my AR and was just wondering if anyone with some experience with these sights could offer some info. The locking pin, pivot point, aperture pivot and windage adjustment are all tight and seemingly sturdy, however when the sight is up there is some play side to side as well as back and forth in the lock position. There is not a lot but it is brand new and I am wondering if this is normal or will it get worse?

Is there enough wiggle that it will affect accuracy? I was thinking of getting a set of Troys for my AR and I was hoping they would be top quality irons (I recently sold my Swiss Arms and my M305, so I am having iron sight withdrawal). Should I be looking elsewhere?
 
Depends on what you are looking for in iron sights.
They are only adjustable for windage, not elevation.
They have a large diameter aperture for close/night shooting (~ .2" diameter) and a small aperture for regular (~ .1" dia.) shooting that replicate the standard AR iron sights.
For a foldable, iron sight that tucks under an optic they work OK - I prefer the offerings from KAC.
If you want something that more resembles the features of the A2 irons, then maybe LMT cut downs would work better.
 
At this point I doubt I'll notice any accuracy changes, jus a bit surprised it's not a bit tighter for the $'s. I haven't shot with it yet just hoping it won't get a lot worse with use. It does fold down nice, co-witnesses ok with my RDS...so will most likely serve it's purpose well enough.

They're back up sights, for shooting people. They're not a precision sight nor is the rifle they were designed for. You likely won't notice any changes in performance with the minute movement.
