GG&FB,
You know how busy I was even before our build.:) Family, In laws in town and my baby daughter, maybe just rusty. But one thing I can say, it was worth the investment to have this set up done. I'll post new pictures of the 2 SAGE set ups. The pics I have here are old.

And for those people who find the SAGE setup heavy, well the weight just ate much of the recoil. My friend who has arthritis was shooting with me and he found shooting this 2 rifles easy.:) Maybe for those complaining about the weight of the stock, just do some bicep curls and tricep curls, also dips would strenghten your upper body!:D

I am only 5'9 not as big as GG&FB and I was ok with the SAGE.

H20 MAN,

You too have some nice SAGE's, I've checked out your Links before. This one pictured, is in my opinion a great setup for the M14.:dancingbanana:

Thanks Sprint. It was put to good use. I still remember what you told me, "something old is new again.":)

Initial Set up. Still waiting for a US Optics SN4 Slimline. Scope was ordered but will take 2 months to come. I used a set of original HK 416 Diopter sights and a Trijicon Reflex sight. Works for me.:)

Thanks very much to CQB Services for the quick shipping of the Troy Stock. Thanks also to Steyr101 for the SOCOM SA Rifle.

Hope to update the set up by September this year.

Cost as of today

Damn....now THAT's what the M-14 should look like....

Can I ask how much it all ran you to get setup?

NS

NS,

The cost is C$3550, without the bipod and bipod adaptor. Add the C$1500 for the incoming SN4, then I am up to 5K, much like the SAGE from the previous pages of this thread.

I have another SAGE stock here, a SAGE II, but I don't really know how I should build this next one for next year. :)

Thanks for the compliments.

EC

Let us know about the SN4, it looks like a great scope (on paper) but seems to get ignored here. I'm surprised that this is the case, as it appears to be quite similar to the S&B Shortdot for just over half the cost. The quality should be comparable.

PS, very jealous about the rifles, awesome equipment! The Troy stock looks almost FNish from some angles, good news for those of us who still pine for the FN.

ian_in_vic,

We'll do. When I ordered it(SN4), I didn't realize that is was custom made tailored to what you wanted. I thought they might have one in the shelf ready to go. Before ordering the scope, I did some checking and the reviews on the SN4 is good to very good. Though a S&B Short Dot would be the "cream of the crop" in these type of scopes. But wouldn't want to spend anymore since I have another SAGE that has not been built yet sitting here. And OT at work is slow these days.:eek:

Thanks for the compliments as well.:)

I had two hours to set this up at the range last thursday. Everything went well and I am happy with the US OPtics SN4 Slimline. At 1X power and the rheostat lit up,it functions like a red dot and targets was easy to acquire. At 4X power range at 100 meters the paper target was also easy to acquire.:)

Though, to be honest the 16 SA did not group well, 4 to 5inches at 100 meters. It was a blast to shoot it rapid.:) Maybe, I will do some improvements later on and see if I can shrink the size of the group. I am using South African surplus ammo but when time permits I will try some ammo that are factory 150 grain or less. Sure would like to get some on Hornady TAP 110 gr. I saw and read a magazine one time and they were testing out a SOCOM 16 and it group well with the Hornady. Also, had to remove the rear diopter sight since the La Rue SPR mount did not permit this set up. I'll probably remove the front as well and maybe when the LWRC rifle does hit our shores then I can move the 416 sights to that platform instead.

That's it for now. Till the next time. You folks take care and enjoy.:50cal:
