I recently bought 2 Troy PARs from IRUNGUNS. Neither are at the 1000 round mark yet, probably about 750 each. Today one started failing. When you slide the slide forward, it doesn't bring the bolt with it. At first I thought it was a magazine problem but I tried a few brands with the same problem. I even stuck my finger in there and moved the slide forward and light finger pressure held it back. The other one you can't do this to. I quickly took it apart and it looks like the operating arm is intact but I didn't have time to disassemble the other one to check it. If there is no resistance the bolt will slide forward as normal. Anyone seen this before? If it's an easy fix I'll try it before sending it for warranty work.

Is the block on the bolt carrier, the part the operating rod slides in, made from aluminum or steel? The reason I'm asking is because mine had an aluminum one and when I upgraded to the new style pump forend, It came
with an upgraded tool steel one. If it's aluminum it might be wearing out allowing the rod to slide out when loading?

^^^ what this guy says.

The PAR I had had this issue. I noticed the wear before it got to the point that the op rod was disconnecting. I actually noticed it because I started having the odd light strike which never happened until it was well used. When I disassembled it to see what's going on I noticed the wear and figured that it wasn't allowing the rifle to go fully into battery occasionally causing light strikes if I didn't pump it hard.

The aluminum block wearing is a known issue on these however I thought Troy corrected it with the steel block on newer production. There is always the possibility that IRG picked up some old stock somewhere to sell?

Interesting. Both of these will give a light strike if the slide is not slammed home forcefully. Like it will appear to be fully forward but you will get a click instead of a bang. Then if you slide the bolt back a bit it will not extract the round, but sliding it back into place will return it to battery and the round will fire. Unlike most pump shotguns- they will not "click" unless fully into battery.

As well, I'll be back at the range tomorrow and investigate further.

Troy is kind of lame when it comes to the aluminum vs steel block.... they changed it because it was failing but they refuse to admit that it's a warranty issue and will not supply parts as a re-call type situation.

It's been a couple years since they changed it so I doubt there would still be new units being sold with out the steel block.
If it's got a newer style non railed foreend it should have a steel block.

I was told by the Canadian importer that these IRG guns were grey market guns with no warranty, since not approved for import by Troy. Their exact words...not mine. Best of luck.

I bought a TROY PAR not too long ago. What's the best way to tell if I will have this issue? I'm not big on identifying metal types. Is there a way to tell if I have one of the old stock or new stock by looking at it?

I had purchased it second hand, so I'm not sure the original source, and I no longer have the contact info of the person I bought it off of.

If a fridge magnet sticks, it's not aluminium.

Aside from the lack of hand-guard compatibility, I guess complexity issues like this explains why Spectre and Maple Ridge chose to go with a straight pull bolt design for their manual action firearms out of the gate instead of a pump action.

I'll stick to using my semi-autos

The warranty is through IRG. They send it to the US for warranty work.

I'll bet that'll be a quick turnaround these days. So, since you seem to know the process, what's IRG saying about the approved Canadian importer stating Troy will not be offering warranty to these grey market guns? IRG is fixing them in house? On their own dime?

I have that problem with mine as well, once every ten rds or so. Mine is a gen 2. I bought mine second hand so no warranty. The only difference between ours is mines been doing that all along. I've got about 600rds through mine

If you remove your bolt and examine it, is there significant wiggle with the bolt face in the bolt? My bolt face has significant travel in the bolt where the cam pin is in its channel, whereas there's no wiggle in an ar bolt and bolt face. Apologies if I'm not using correct terminology. I noticed my firing pin is longer than ar spec so it's not the pins fault.

I wont speak for IRG, you can call them yourself.

Troy has warranty service in the US you know. Thats where these go.

EDIT:

Its a sticky on their own forum.

Upon further investigation the problem is simple but not necessarily simply fixed. The operating rod extends into the hand guard and into a hole in the slide. The rod is held in place by a small spring loaded block. You insert the bolt with attached rod, rod goes through the “gas port” then into a hole in the slide. You compress the small block to allow the rod through, then release it and it jams the rod into place.

Basically the spring loaded block isn’t holding the rod tight enough. I’m sure there is a pic or video of it somewhere.

I understand the idea but I think some better hooking system would be an improvement.

Not this again. LOL.

Regardless of what any distributor in Canada tries to tell you; IRG has exceptionally good warranty coverage.
I would argue that IRG warranty coverage is actually better than any Canadian distributor can offer you.

They're able to bring guns back and forth across the border with ease.
As such; They will send your gun back to the factory in USA for warranty service.
