Troy SAR (Side Action Rifle) !!!

They are interesting enough to me that I bought a PAR (and paid about $300 cad more than the US retail price) but sold it because it was a little awkward for bench shooting. The bolt looks much more suited for it.

I don’t have much interest in black powder rifles or pottery making or home dentistry so I don’t seek out threads about them to post my disinterest.

Interesting rifle, I'm not sure which would be better suited to my shooting between the PAR and SAR but definitely a cool rifle that will be way down on the gun grabbers list of scary things we shouldn't be allowed to have.

I didn't know that the original PAR had proprietary magazines. It's too bad there wasn't a 10 round available when it was sent in for classification, we may have ended up with a slightly different rifle. On the other hand being a manual action I don't care as much about capacity and do prefer STANAG pattern mags since I already own so many. I have a couple bolt actions that I have 10 round mags for and most of the time I find I don't need the extra rounds even though I am glad that the option is there when I occasionally want a few extra.
These rifles with a LAR magazine are just fine in my opinion, it's stupid that they think a rivet reduces crime or makes people safer but even if they were legal my manual action rifles would still only use 5 or 10 round mags 95% of the time. Maybe some day those idiots will realize that laws don't stop criminals from doing what they want and that only law abiding citizens who you don't have to worry about anyway will follow the laws no matter how stupid they are.

Looking forward to seeing this rifle on the market, I'm sure it will be just as popular as the PAR.

Well CGN has been getting a little boring lately, people need to look for something to comment on so they can get their post count up.
The latest influx of airsoft commandos has turned me off of most threads lately.
Either the same old crap regurgitated over and over or just idiotic comments from guys who just want to argue since it's the internet and being an ass doesn't get you a punch in the mouth anymore. I wouldn't mind the arguing (debating) but they argue like children and resort to name calling when you throw a couple facts at them.
You just have to learn to skip over those posts, it's just not worth replying to a lot of guys any more.

Nothing wrong with the PAR. (Thx gadget, I had no idea!) I have one in .223, and wish they would bring in more in .308.

With the 24.5” Length, they’d have to add some length/barrel (like so many others) to make it NR.

I recently got a PAR 223 folder and really like it, very accurate and light ( 6lbs. ). I would get one in 308 for deer hunting but (8 lbs) is a little heavy, hope this new SAR will come in 308 and will be lighter than PAR, then I'll take one in a hart beat.

Big thanks to Gadget for making this happen.

The Troy SAR sounds interesting since uppers could theoretically be swapped easier than the PAR (no need to swap out the pump, with the SAR just place bolt in different upper. I am interested in buying a SAR and building a 12.5 barrelled 300 blackout (fixed stock to meet minimum OAL). Eventually I would like to make a separate upper in 223 Wylde with a DMR barrel.

Almost 3 yrs later...

So when are these gonna start hitting retailers shelves...???

:HFU:

They (unfortunately) don't look like such a bad option now, eh ? To all the naysayers.

ovrec .

I will quote myself from another thread regarding some Canadian made options that may well arrive before the SAR ever graces our nation :) They may be suitable if you have a cache of parts ready to go, or can get access to the parts and either build them yourself, or get a gunsmith to put them together for you.

Spectre Ballistics is selling a $20 sticker to hold a place in line for their Light Practical Carbine straight pull receiver set at $799. They are quite close to having their first production run out the door. You can strip your AR-15 of everything except the bolt carrier, receiver parts, and buffer spring. Spectre has elected to not employee the spring for an assist, lest any kind of automation mark the receiver as prohibited.

Maple Ridge Armoury has opened a pre-order for their MRA-V1B straight pull, spring assisted receiver set. They want a deposit of $200 towards the final price of $799.95. It will be similar to Spectres, but MRA has elected to use the AR buffer spring to provide an assist to the action.

As noted, you may be able to get a magazine fed .223 traditional bolt action rifle for less money, but if you want to re-use your AR-15, ATRS, or Maccabee parts until the dust settles, and want something that uses AR-15 parts for a more tactical look and feel, both receiver sets give you that option.

Below is a video of Spectre's prototype LPC in action. Note that the charging handle on both designs is ambidextrous.

The SPR is already here... https://marstar.ca/product/troy-16-side-action-rifle/

Got my TROY SAR in 223 today. Id doesn't fold :(

Im thinking a 308 SAR would be good - I especially like the short barrels and pinned stocks on these with an OAL 26'' length

But, you can buy the folding stock parts and replace it. Plus, I think the lack of folding stock is potentially due to OAL

Yeah the FRT says that it folds down to 25.7"<26" which is under 660mm making it restricted if it folded. Theoretically a longer muzzle device would give you the required length over 660mm to have a folding stock.

I'd just go with a Canadian brand and get an MRA Renegade or Maverick if you're looking for a straight pull bolt action in the style of an AR-15.
