TRS-25: Broken Bushnell?

Heyall,

I have been running a UTG red dot sight on my turkey/goose 12 gauge for a few years and it has performed great. Last week I picked up a Derya MK12 semi-auto 12 gauge and moved the red dot over to the new gun. I ran about 15 light homemade slugs through it to sight in and another 10 or 15 rounds of bird shot. Suddenly the red dot moved to the 8-o-clock position and would not longer adjust. I accepted that I finally killed an inexpensive sight and didnt think much of it. The dot worked fine, but was simply out of view under normal viewing angle.

I have been running a Bushnell TRS-25 on my AR15 for 3-gun for a year or so. I have a couple thousand rounds through it and really like the sight, so I bought a second one for my shotgun; I have yet to get it in the mail. For the purpose of getting out shooting, I moved the TRS-25 from my AR over to the Derya. I shot about 30 rounds of bird shot, and suddenly the red dot moved to the 8-o-clock position again. It failed in the exact same way as the UTG. I did a bunch of searching on the interwebs and couldnt find anyone else with the same issue. Basically doesnt seem to respond to any adjustment, as if the laser emitter has broken loose. Is the Derya just a red dot killer? Worked fine on my pump for years.

Has anyone else has this kind of failure? I will contact Bushnell because it is likely still under warranty, but now I am nervous about putting any optic on this shotgun. I dont have the money to spend on a high dollar sight... not really sure what to do, or if either of these red dots could be fixed?

I appreciate any advice.

Cheers.

Huh, weird, I've run TRS25's on all kinds of different guns for years with no problems, including pump shotguns, but never on a semi shotgun. Only issue I've ever had was one that arrived with the battery mount broken - returned it to Amazon.

I think your guns action kills optics. I have an sks dust cover mount that has killed a few scopes. It even broke a vari-X III that I had to send for repair. I no longer use a dust cover scope mount.

Ive got 2 both on czs one ive had for 5 years and another bought used off EE a yearago and it craped out on me 2months ago but i sent it in and they replaced it for free

He posted that it was a good sight, and that ruger had good warranty support.
Do you think the glass should be stronger?

Yes I do. I think the optic is a POS and from the two I had that died riding on rimfire rifles I can assure you they are far from quality.

That's some pretty bad luck and goes against the grain of most people's experience. How did you find Bushnell's support?
I seem to recall their being a certain generation with a different color logo or something that people were complaining about for quality but that's about it.

I didn't bother with support, why would I want another turd?

So a brass casing smashed the lens and you still think they're well built???

This happens a lot with the sks and scout mounting rails, it’s right over the ejection port and the sks throws brass up and a touch forward.

That’s too bad, we’re they knock offs or legit Bushnell’s?

Geez, I know of some who use these on 12 g shotguns with zero issue. You must have some really crappy luck to kill two on rimfires. They certainly aren't aimpoints but, they don't cost Aimpoint money either.

That’s been my experience, have had mine on two different 12g shotguns and zero issues with the optic end of it. I stripped the threading on the claw part of the clamp but that was my own damn fault, I retapped it to an 8/32” thread and I use a torque driver now to mount it.
