truck gun ,what do you use

for some weird reason I thought that road hunting from a truck was illegal, so I never did designate me a truck gun! But, I'm a gonna git me one set up tonight now that I know that other's have them. I'm gonna look in the big safe! You can bet your sweet hiney that's it's gonna have a HDM (hunter's delight magazine) with the bonus "snatch or snap" style clip on the hinged floor plate of the Browning A-bolts. A truck gun don't come any better than that, if ya know what I mean!;)

Rem 870 Wingmaster with 12.5" barrel and red dot sight.

In a soft case with 40 rounds of slugs, 20 BB and 00Buck, 50 bird shot.

Works okay but I want a bit more range so I would like to build a Mossberg MVP but with a 12" barrel in 300 Blackout.

Be careful with that. You don't want to get caught shooting from a road and especially from a truck (on the road or not) in this province.

I bought a cut down old sabatti over under 12 ga at Epps a few years ago. 20" barrel so in two pieces it fits in my backpack with a vest, cap, ammo and hunting basics (.license, compass, knife, matches, whistle). Teeny tiny little kit that I can grab and go. It's a nice rig for birds and bunnies, but I tested it at the range with rifles slugs and I'm not much good with it outside of 25 yards for a deer. I'd like to get a BLR takedown 308 with the 20" barrel for that purpose - just iron sights. So for me, I guess it's less about a 'truck gun' (I don't have a truck! LOL) as it is a 'backpack gun' to allow me to walk into places without arising concern or the attention of others - hunter and non-hunters alike!
But those BLRs are now only available new in the laminate and stainless models, which are nice but pricey for a 'truck gun'. I wish I'd bought one of the blue and wood base models back when Le Baron had them for 800$. Now I sit and twiddle my thumbs and wait for a response to my WTB in the EE... I also considered the Chiappa Alaskan take down in a .45 or .44, but I'd be a lot more confident in the 308 as a deer calibre.

My truck gun this year is a Savage Axis, stainless, in a Boyds stock, with a timney trigger, scoped with a Bushnell 10X tatical, in 7mm-08, shooting 162 Hornady BTSP's.

LOL, Actually its a nice shooter and I like the gun, but its also the most unlucky gun I've ever owned! So far anyways.

All depends on which way the bumper is pointed.
Sumtimes the old 69A, the A-5 20, the BLR 358win, the Ruger 77 in .308win.
Maybe the A-5 12.
Sumtimes the old clunker, Schultz in .308NM.
Couple times this year the 336 in 35rem.
Maybe this coming week the 92 44-40 along with it's buddy, Marlin 44 mag.
Need to do a chrony shewt.

Git yer arse ready there Mr. H. ........

Lately it's a beat up old cut down Springfield 30-40 Krag with a REALLY nice bore. Original sling too.
Brings some Panache to the whole truck gun concept I find. Watch a hunter wrinkle his nose when I pull it out of the overhead and then grin when I flip the side gate down and loosely tumble in 4 rounds and flip the gate shut.
Has no problem 'Whanging' off coyote size targets ( e.i. rocks) at 300-350 paces. No recoil and minimal report.
And smooth as glass to cycle the action too...

This year it's been a Baikal single 410, and a BRNO 222 for opportune moments. My boy uses the 410 usually, and I carry the triple deuce for.....well, I don't know what for, I never shoot anything I see anyway!!! Lol

Savage 340 .222 with a 10x Busnell is what I pack now as deer season ended yesterday for me. Its ugly and beat up but she puts them little pills where I want them.

I'm still looking for something in an A-Bolt with the HDM (hunter's delight magazine), short action, 7-08 or 308, prefer a Micro, can be a little rough, must be cheap in case it gets confiscated.
