Truck Guns

I carry a shotgun and a rifle in the truck most times... they are not specific for the vehicle... they are specific for the game I may enounter.

Im pretty much the same. I have an old 2 3/4 Biakal OU that was ugly as hell so it got a camo treatment. If it rusts, gets dragged behind, who cares.
But every time the trigger gets pulled, it goes bang. It doesnt get cleaned much, but gets a wipedown every time it goes away.

Because I live in the city, I dont have much use for a "Truck Gun". If I load up my vehicle, Im usually looking for something, and a specific gun or two comes along.
If I think about it, my 243 Abolt has been out more this year than anything else, but I dont think its a truck gun in my definition. Its not a gun I would just tooss behind the seat so to speak...

As for old reliables, I sold my 300 win mag savage. It was my one go to gun, and IMHO, fit the truck gun Image to the T. It was light, synthetic stocked, so it didnt show its dings like wood if you set it down. It was capable of taking anything I pointed it at at nearly any distance I was capable of shooting with a good scope. (3.5-10 scopechief)
Even though it had a blind mag, it was still quick to load.
It was basically a left handed stevens 200, so you guys understand...:D
For the money, I dont think there is a more capable rifle.
I'd like one in 223, or 22-250

Just because it's a truck gun doesn't mean it has to be abused, having said that however I would opt for a carbine length military rifle with robust, sights, rather than optics. A jungle carbine comes to mind as does an FR-8, or perhaps a tanker Garand. I got a short FN-49 .30-06 that would qualify - although it is on the cumbersome side. More often than not it's my 590 that's the truck gun.

I live in the city, so when I go out of town to hunt it is usually pretty serious so I bring my good rifle, the Husquvarna 270.

I often go up Vancouver Island in the spring because my parents live there, so I put my 300 Win. mag Enfield in the truck.

I don't find it makes much difference in practicality as far as whipping out a Winchester 94 out of a padded case behind the seat or a bolt action rifle. A difference of a few seconds I guess. They both hang up on the case the same when I'm trying to extract them in a hurry, the bolt action rifles on the scope and the 30-30 on the reciever sight.

In the summer though if I'm going hiking or camping after August 1 I bring the 410 for snowshoe hare. Or in July when I go black raspberry picking up behind Gatehouse's house I bring the Model 94 to go bang in the air if a bear gets too close.

Well I don't live anywhere near a city and do have a use for a truck gun. I had my bench seat recovered by a lady who did a marvelous job. She even snuck a stiched in rifle scabord behind the seat without me asking, saweeet I thought. But its so freaking wet around here most of the year I just can't bring myself to leaving anything out there 24-7. I left a Cooey 22 in the scabord for a month and couldn't believe the progression of corosion.

So, my 'truck gun' gets changed from time to time by virtue of the fact that I usually take the rifle in at night anyway. It varies from an old Marlin 30-30 to a Jungle Carbine and an old FR8 will probably get some truck time too, or a .22 depending on what I'm up to . :)

My truck gun is a Ruger 77RSI in 250 Savage w/ 4x compact Leupold.
Strange thing for me is when I have the gun in the truck I never see anything to shoot.
But let me not have the gun all the critters come out and mock me!

That gun's unlucky Pickles you better send it to me right away. I might even pay a little. :p

A 6.5x55 Swede Mauser. It was already ''bubba'd" when I got it, so I set it up with a "scout" scope, williams peep sight, ching sling, and a synthetic stock. Painted everything to help keep the rust at bay. It's a good do all rifle for here in Ontario.
I am looking for some stripper clips for it, if you happen to have a few you'd like to part with? ZM

I'm with Bronco mudder: stevens 325C with a red-dot in .30-30:

does the job for roadside, and if I see something cross the road that I want.

LB No4MkI*...... $25 barrelled action with matching bolt... free extra butt and "sported" fore'end that was laying around from my decade-long obsession with Lee Enfields...

180gr .303 will drop anything on 2 or 4 legs in north america, and the peep sights are good enough or better for any sort of "emergency" shooting.

Heck, a box of cartridges costs nearly as much as the rifle did!

:)

(And, it will take a bayonet, for those extra-serious emergencies...)
