truck guys...whats your fuel consumption ratio( couldn't think of the proper term)LOL

I run a 02 Explorer. In the summer on a long road trip 26 mpg. Winter 22 mpg.
One thing I have noticed is, with the new Ethanol blend my mileage has gone for crap. 17mpg. Only way I get it back to 22 is half and half premium. I asked my bulk fuel dealer and asked why that was and they said it was because it lighter fuel :( Buggs me that the price per liter is the same with less mpg. Anyone else have that problem?

I should have mentioned as was pointed out. 3:55 gears, 5 speed auto OD tranny 4.0 V6.

My current truck is a 97 GMC C3500 crewcab dually with 4.10 gears and 6.5L TD (weighs 3000kg empty). I get around 700kms per 120L tank. I had an 89 Dodge D250 with the 5.9 Cummins, 3.08 gears and 3spd auto (no overdive) that averaged 800km to a 100L tank.

I noticed only one other poster mentioned his gear ratio... You guys that have similar vehicles but get way different mileage, this may be why. Take two otherwise identical trucks, one with 3.08 gears and one with 4.10's, the truck with the 3.08 gears will use a LOT less fuel.

Those big gears pay off when hauling a load. The jeep is running 4:11's front and rear. It's neck snapping in low range, and top comfortable speed in Low low is damned slow, I think something like ten miles per hour. Very tractor like pulling power.

Metric "mileage"

Dakota 4x4...with the 3.8L v6 It get about 14 L / 100 km - not very good.

I don't understand why everyone but the last poster seems to be converting both liters to gallons and kilometers to miles when both were obsolete more than twenty years ago???? Why not just use the units on the pump & odometer?

Maybe because we too were obsolete 20 years ago?

On the other hand, I do it because my lifetime experience of comparable data is in MPG. I notice that Evironment Canada's fuel economy website has given up on pure metric and now offers the option of MPG data.

Yep remember they tried to express windchill factor in Watts per square meter? Made perfect sense but people wanted to know how cold it felt so they dropped it.

Well you boys are all getting purty good milage compared to Big Blue. She's a hog but I just can't part with her. She's been on semi retirement/use when needed for a while as I've been driving a Cherokee. Cherokee wasn't bad on fuel but I totaled it Friday in a headon. Blue is back as my upfront truck again.
!977 F250 400cid 465 lift 270 duration cam. Edelbrock aluminum highrise and a 750 Holley. Beat up and rusty but she's got BALLS. She's got a Ramsey 8000lb winch welded to the front with 200ft of 7/16 stainless cable and wears 33/12.50's. 6 mpg

You are daman grnhawg thanx for keeping my winters warm. My 76 c-class 460 gets 10mpg at 55-60 mph and 6 or 7 at 75mph depending on the wind.

i got an 07 F150 4x4 with 5.4L, 4sp auto and 4.10 gears and 6000km. My last trip down to Vancouver i averaged 14L/100k i think thats 18-19mpg. That was with some snowy sections and using 4 hi. Not bad considering the winter driving, i think that should pick up abit come summer time. I think fuel economy has gotten better in the last few years. My old gmc 3/4 with 350v8 and 4spd manual would at very best do about 17 mpg driving on the hwy at 90kmh. Try to drive 110 or 120 and i could almost cut that in half. My previous truck was a 1998 nissan 4x4 p/u with a 4cy/5spd and i could get about 27mpg but with the 4cyl it was brutally slow especially driving here in the Alberta mountains. At -30c it could barely achieve 90kmh!!! All in all i am happy with my new fords gas mileage considering the truck is alot bigger and has more than 2x the horsepower as my old nissan im still getting about 2/3 the mileage i would consider that a fair trade...

My 94 S10 Blazer 4x4 gets 16 around town and 21 on the highway (auto trans, 3.73 gears, usually 118 kph on the highway). Those milage figures are in imperial gallons. The 05 Tahoe gets 15-16 around town (depending on my foot and how cold it is, idling factor there) and 21 on the highway if I stay below 120. Running 130-140 15 is all she will do. Those milage figures are US gallons, from the onboard computer. That's with the 5.3 V8 and auto trans. FWIW - dan

05 ford E-150, 4.6L, regular length, gets 13 mpg highway at best!
95 gmc sierra, 5.7L, xcab, shortbox, auto, gets 17ish highway.
thank god i only have to pay for the gas in the gmc!

I have an 05 Toyota Tundra 4x4 Access Cab with 4.7 L V8. My mileage in summer is about 14 MPG city and 19 to 20 highway. Less in winter, about 10 or 11 city and 17 to 18 highway.

Anyone here driving Toyota Trucks? I hear the new Tacomas in 4X4 are getting just under 30 MPG.

The new Tacoma DC 4x4s are rated at about 28 MPG highway BUT in reality are getting 24 to 25 tops. My 05 Tundra has never gotten it's advertized EPA rating either, not even once, nor do I believe it can.

I need to update my pics of the truck, that one is when I first drove it home.

"...Suzuki Sidekick...best damn vehicle I have ever had..." Wait 'til you have to buy parts. Drove a 'long box' Samurai for 15 years. The windshield rusted gone across the bottom inside of 4 years, the body sides by the windshield posts rusted gone too. Put 3 motors into it. A wiper motor cost me over $100 about 10 years ago. I must say that the automatic free wheeling hubs never gave me any trouble.
Have an F-150 now. I don't bother with what gas mileage it gets. It goes over 600km on a full tank. That's all I care about knowing. I do miss the 4 wheel drive when the roads are bad though.
