Is this supposed full ban process not illegal? I know little of the intricacies in how this subjects become law, but is this not illegal? Is there not a specific process that needs to be followed? Can they just ban handguns and “assault rifles”, with the stoke of a pen???
 
To those that have expressed the opinion that it can't be done or is not legal, read this:

Unauthorized possession of firearm

91 (1) Subject to subsection (4), every person commits an offence who possesses a prohibited firearm, a restricted firearm or a non-restricted firearm without being the holder of

(a) a licence under which the person may possess it; and

(b) in the case of a prohibited firearm or a restricted firearm, a registration certificate for it.

Marginal note:Unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon or restricted weapon

(2) Subject to subsection (4), every person commits an offence who possesses a prohibited weapon, a restricted weapon, a prohibited device, other than a replica firearm, or any prohibited ammunition, without being the holder of a licence under which the person may possess it.

All they have to do is pass an OIC than rescinds all licenses and there you have it. Easy to do really.

With no compensation really there just stealing, some of us have collectors firearms that aren't cheap , or new made that equally expensive , it's a load of garbage
I don't understand how they could get away with it but I guess anything is possible these days
 
What are the chances of this being reversed if the Libs get voted out this fall?

This just pisses me off because I just want to target shoot.. It's restrictive as it is. We aren't breaking any laws.

Absolutely this. Almost brilliant. The chance to falsely brand fellow Canadians as dangerous and women haters is too delicious for this government to pass up.

Seconded for the CPC. Bernier, as good as he seems, isn't the safest bet for the survival of our sport. Not this time around, anyways.
 
Can the government just take privately owned property without compensation and at the drop of an Order in Council or however? Anybody remember how that came about at the beginning of WW2 and how many Japanese Canadians and Americans had that exact thing happen to them? They lost their property and were rounded up and put in camps till the war`s end.
Just sayin.
