Hey guys~question for you if you own one of these... After admiring the identical sight on my buddy's 11-87, he ended-up buying me one for Christmas. I got a chance to shoot some trap with his gun and in spite of how little I like the look of these sights...I was VERY impressed with the function. Anyhow, I followed the instructions to the letter, and made sure (before starting) that the sight base, the vent rib, and even my finger tips were well-swabbed down with rubbing alcohol. I applied the tape the base, it seemed to grab as it should. I removed the backing off the other side and went to apply it to the vent rib~it wouldn't stick. Thought maybe it was riding-up on the bead base so I checked again, applied some pressure...and it just lifted off. Up until this point, I hadn't touched the tape itself (didn't want to compromise it) but having tried twice, I decided to check~wasn't all that sticky.

I did send-off an email to TRUGLO and expect a company like them to stand behind their products, but until I hear back...I'm wondering if any of you have had this issue, and, how you resolved it? Looking at the surface of the vent rib, there are as many voids as there is surface area...but many are. (to a greater or lesser degree) I'd like to think the adhesive could overcome that, and have enough to grab.

Anyhow, fairly discouraging...but we'll see what they say.

Never had the issue, I have never had the urge to install one of these devices on a shotgun, but I have helped people to improve their trap and skeet scopes by removing them from their shotguns.

:)

Well, that's how I used to feel about these...and I have no intention of adding one to my 28" VR barrel (proper bead) but if you notice, the turkey barrel has a white bead and unless the back drop is dark, it almost disappears. I also hunt grouse with this barrel, even trap sometimes (FULL choke tube) and well..white doesn't stand-out well shooting into an overcast sky.

However, thanks for the constructive input.

If the gun has interchangeable beads, as some of mine do, I purposely install the smallest white bead. If you try and aim at the clay targets using the bead, the result is usually lower scores at trap/skeet/sporting clays.

Sights like that dont belong on a shotgun in my opinion. But if you like it that is fine. I would suggest getting a screw on version and if your bead isnt removable get a smith to tap it. I see those stick ons fall off all the time.

I have seen some people use small tie wraps to hold them on. There are also versions that clip onto the rib. I certainly wouldn't do anything permanent to install one.

Yeah, check Cabelas for the screw in Truglo beads. I've bought 2 for $11 each there. Just look at the back of the package for the chart that lists what size for your shotgun brand.

Temporary fixes such the tie wrap mentioned or perhaps a tiny dab of colored flourescent paint on existing bead ought to work.....

I found most folks end up shooting a better score after I removed there bead .Thy spend to much time looking at the bead instead of the target. Once thy learn to keep both eyes open and look at the target instead of the bead there score went way up. Dutch

Ps the only time this kind of thing works is turkey hunting were yoy do aim your shotgun at a small target.

Update~TRUGLO did email me back saying they were sending some replacement adhesive strips, so I'll try one of those. The 21" Turkey barrel is an Express-grade thing..so I'm assuming the bead is press-fit, not screw-in. I'm not thrilled enough with the whole idea to permanently attach a fiber optic of any kind, so if the adhesive doesn't take, I'll likely abandon the whole idea. I looked-over the High Viz and TRUGLO sights and I would probably try a clip-on-the-rib kind given the chance, not sure I'll order one though.

For the record, the exact sight (pictured in my thread starter) is still holding strong on my buddy's camo 11-87. It's seen allot of 3-1/2" shells over the duck/geese season...been wet countless times. It may fall off at some point, but showing no signs of doing that so far. Upon closer inspection, the rib on his gun looks the same as mine, only with the addition of the camo dip.
