I was talking to a guy who said he bought a .357 mag revolver and can get four inch groups at 200 yards. I thought it was beyond bulls**t and was more of an insult to my intelligence, considering the guy has no time to ever shoot it.

It might be BS or he just might be a really good shot. In the end, unless he proves this and you or someone else witnesses it, who cares! At the End of the day, he can only shoot 6, I can shoot 11. HMMMMM..................OH and when would this guy ever really need to shoot at 200 Yds with a REVOLVER?

I could probably shoot groups like that also with hand gun...albiet that it would be with a TC Contender or similar

Disregarding the possibility of a single lucky group, I would suggest that it is highly unlikely that a .357 revolver would be capable of consistantly and predictably grouping 2 moa at 200 yds. 2 moa at 25 or 50 might be possible. This would mean 1/2" groups at 25 or 1" groups at 50, center to center; rather good grouping, even from a machine rest. Really doesn't matter. If laddie wants to tell his story, what difference does it make? I bet that if you were ever at a range with him, there would probably be many reasons why it would not be a good time to demonstrate shooting 4" @ 200.

he must have had a hard time mounting a rifle scope on that revolver :)

He may very well have a long eye relief scope on a long barreled .357, shooting from a bench rest.

This is within the realm of the possible, but if he's talking about shooting his 4" barreled ruger offhand at that range I'd have to call bull####.

Wow!! It's like a guy I knew at work who swore that he could shoot open sighted and hit the target with a .22lr at 50 yards. We used my Beretta 87T at 50 yards with Dynapoints. The only shot that hit the target was at the bottom right hand corner of the paper out of 20 shots. He was so proud of himself and said, 'Told you so.' I didn't bother to comment. Some people are really legends in their own mind......

edited to add: sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the thread but...

with my desert eagle 357, i could hit a 6x6 steel plate at 200m 7 out of 10 shots, bagged with a red dot sight. if he claims 2MOA groups iron sighted, i think it's time to do a courtesy flush so we don't all have to smell it.

I've seen some guys here at the silouhette range with 44mag revolvers consistently hit 8/10 plates at 200 yds, with iron sights no less - but of course those figures are a bit more than 2 inches at that range!

I was still pretty impressed though. They use creedmore position for it - I tried it and nearly broke my neck :)

i've hit momj at 250 yards with a ruger old army and 30 grains of ffg powder- walked it onto to the target , though- first shot hit the bottom of the pile, second was pu and left, 3rd hit- then the rest were hits-oh momj- minute of milk jug- filled with water - and the slugs were 44cal in a 457 bore- didn't know any better at the time

What did he say he could shoot open sighted? I may be missing something here, my bud shoots minute of pie plate all day long with his 22 S&W Semi at 50 yards. Never thought much of it. Neither does he.

Sorry, this thread just reminded me of the good 'ol self-proclaimed "gun master" at my work who entertains us with his various tales of firearms...

Thursday, Nov. 17th 6PM'ish 2005 - He tells me (He doesn't know I shoot BTW) and 2 other co-workers that the ultimate weapon is a .357 Magnum revolver with a silencer... apparently they are whisper quiet. (As he is in a higher up position than me I didn't think it'd have been appropriate to bring up the fact that there is a gap between the cylinder and barrel where a lot of sound occurs... heheh)

I too would call BS on your friend... the world is full of these people.
