Try a triple!!

Wulfgard, you are a new member here and I don't want to come off as a ####. In all seriousness, if you were offended, I apologize.

I thought my attempt at humour would be obvious but sometimes it doesn't come through the typed page as well as when said.

No worries canvas, humor is hard to tell with text and I can be quick to jump to the wrong conclusion. But i will tell you I have no idea what a trabant is, a vehicle i would assume. I imagine that being born in the mid 90s I am a good deal younger than a lot of the crowd on here ;). I think a 3 barreled shotgun would be a neat concept provided: A it fits me and B it don't swing like a boat anchor, that being said my 870 express feels a bit forward heavy and I know a guy who can cut re thread the barrel for me but i'm not willing to spend the $160 he wants to shorten the barrel on a $350 gun...

I know you have seen the thread on drillings because you posted on it. Nothing inherently wrong with a three barreled gun. I would look forward to adding the right drilling to my safe. But, IMHO, it sure isn't the Chiappa. And, as has been noted, with a price of $2250 plus tax, it's not like one would be sacrificing some quality and handling characteristics but be getting a sharp price in return.

Want a three barreled gun? Go find a post war German or Austrian weapon from Suhl or Ferlach.

Wulfgard, a Trabant may be the worst automotive disaster ever foisted upon the buying public. Made by the East Germans. A Lada is positively Mercedes-ish by comparison.

I happened to think for a long time that single barrel break actions were useless but I bought a beautiful old Cooey 840 16 gauge that I love now.

BTW, one of my favorite shotguns I bought as an afterthought while picking through an estate sale. Had already bought the gun I meant to, a beautiful 1920-ish 12 gauge sidelock SxS, when I saw this single barreled 12 gauge from about 1910 in almost LNIB condition from a very well regarded English maker. I asked how much, offered to pay half the amount quoted while explaining that the reason it was in such good condition is that no one wants a single barreled shotgun. A little back and forth and I took it home for the price offered.

With light loads of lead, skeet choke, 29' barrels and 5 pounds even, it is IMHO the perfect ruffed grouse gun. I believe the extra length of the barrel, while often considered a impediment to shooting effectively in grouse country, more than make up for its length by helping to contribute to a smooth swing and follow through. And one only gets one shot at ruffed grouse at the best of times. If a second is used, it's just about always a wasted Hail Mary. LOL

I try to be open minded about the shotguns I buy, aiming for quality and effectiveness over necessarily following convention. So good for Chiappa for giving it a shot. But it's still ugly and probably handles, as BUM suggests, like a boat anchor.

I look at this gun a while back nice concept and the camo 28'' version looks great for waterfowl but the weight...iiiiish and price...isssh I' go with a O/U browning cynergy loosing a barrel but 26'' 7# for a little more money and get all the goodies.

Canvaskback, glad to see your still looking after my single shot :)
I've seen the Chiappa, it is neat novelty, nothing worth putting in a quality collection like your for sure!
But if you ever get a nice pre war French 16g three barrel, well that will fit right into your collection!!!
By the way, had a real erratic partridge(2016) season, hope your doing well.
Cheers Dale Zywina

Dale, nice to hear from you. Hope you are doing well these days. I was passing through TB last summer with my boy and hoped to get together for a coffee. Sent you a message but didn't hear back. Glad to hear from you now. BTW, Just as you are waiting in the wings for the Tolley, I'm waiting for someone to sell me HIS single shot Tolley. Like mine but in 16!!! If he ever caves and sends it my way, you'll be the first to know. BTW, missed on a lovely Bonehill 16 single last summer but at least a buddy got it.

Dare I ask the price on one of those French 16s? Or how rare they are?

I'm still waiting to be granted access to the EE, and I've complied with everything that has been asked of me.

Very rare to see a French 16ga tri-barrel, last one I saw was 1/4 of my annual yearly wage!!!!
The 16 HIS Tolley, what features does it have from your 12ga Tolley Canvasback? I also am in line for a steel barrel Bonehill 12ga hammergun, choked full/full which are very tight!

Dale, it's a mirror image! Bonehill made some very nice guns. Not sure if you heard but, speaking of tight, I picked up a Lindner/Charles Daly last fall choked .048/.048. I think the pellets fuse into a single projectile! LOL

I watch a few different sites in France, including their largest on line gun auction and sale site. I can't remember the last time I saw a pure 3 barrel shotgun. Very rare indeed. Just got the government import paperwork for a nice 16 gauge Ideal this morning. Should have it before mid February. Just a two barrel gun though so this is a bit off topic.
