Trying to Acquire items in Canada is FRUSTRATING

I usually buy my stuff that isn't restricted in Michigan when we go every 6 months anyway! I just e-mail ahead & order it! Works for me, less cost, no Canadian tax to pay, less hassel/frustrating, & no shipping costs.

Be patient & plan, if you can....

I will post this in the reloading forum as most items I am looking for are for reloading.

This is mostly just a rant so if you are tight for time you may want to skip this thread.

I just moved from Texas to Calgary Alberta. Wow is it frustrating here to try and buy anything related to guns. I am almost thinking the Canadian government has something to do with this because I can tell you all there is not a shortage anywhere else on gun parts. Powders yes but nothing else. I have long list of things to acquire and I have been 100% unsuccessful finding anything on my list. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places and you fine gentleman can point me in the right place. I have checked most of the site sponsors but after searching half of them and not having 1 hit I abandoned my search.

Things I am looking for:
Hornady Lock N Load Case Prep Center
Redding micor Adjust Taper crimp die 223 rem
Forster Ultra Micrometer seater die 223 rem
Redding Type S Buhing Full Length sizer die 223 rem
An annealer like the giraud.
Pistol powders. (I know these are difficult to find but I am beginning to think difficult is an understatement) I was loading and shooting over 500 rounds a week in Texas through the shortage. Not 1 pound of powder to be found here. (Pistol Power, Tightgroup, Win 231, Bullseye, VV320, Wsf, WST)

I was looking for an extended 30mm mount for my Trijicon Accupoint 1-4. BoBro, Larue or ADM. Cant find any of them. I even went to my local gun shops and they have NO mounts. WTHeck?
Troy BUIS. Can't find them.
The list goes on but those are the main items.

My questions.
Is the lack of parts available a product of low demand or are others looking for these parts and cannot find them either?
Is there a reason some of these parts cannot be brought to Canada? I know ITAR regulates exports in the US. Does that affect items like dies and case prep centers?
Why are the prices so high in Canada? I realize currency difference and import tax but my god it can't be that much of a difference. For example you can buy Hornady hot tubs in the US for $399. Everywhere I find them here they are $600

Rant over. Sorry for wasting 5 minutes of your life. I am just tired of trying to support my hobby here with no luck. I am seriously ready to go back to Texas. (BTW I am Canadian and lived here my entire life minus the last 1.5 years)

Cheers

If this is the most serious problem you have, then you lead a priviledged and sheltered life, LOL. Most people face bigger problems than this before breakfast on an average day. :)

Welcome to the grown up world..... life isn't as simple as you thought and it will get harder. You'll be better off in the long run to suck it up and make it happen than if you waste time crying about it.

Thanks for the feedback. You hit the nail on the head. A pity party is exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate the life advice as well. Sarcasm will stop here.

I, just like most of you, work hard to enjoy the hobbies I have. I don't need people like you treating me like an ass. I was simply expressing myself and clearly by the 3 pages of reply's I expressed a shared frustration. Clearly by the amount of posts you have made you are a valuable member on this form.

Oh, and FYI, these are the problems I worry about day to day and worked dam hard to get to this point in life. Hopefully someday you will share the same success.

Everyone who replied, sorry i did not reply quicker. jethunter just for you, I was enjoying the sun in Costa Rica for the last week.

I really appreciate all your advice. I have bookmarked a few sites you have suggested and am looking into the best way to purchase some of this stuff in the US and mail it up through mail forwarding services.

I am looking forward to the spring so I can get back out to the range. I am in the process of joining a few groups and hope to help get some 3 gun or similar competitions going in the Calgary area. Everyone I have met in the industry here has been excellent, well except for my new best friend jethunter :)

I feel bad as a Canadian to see these kind of "hate" posts. This site is for all of us to share our passion for guns... Don't get "down" by this MrSame! Maybe some members should spend more time shooting then posting stuff like that...

338x, Thanks for that. I have browsed this forum for years and have been impressed by the quality of people posting here. Although I mentioned I moved to Alberta from Texas I am a native Canadian. I only spent 1.5 years of my life in Texas. I really appreciate all the people who replied to my rant. I got allot of good information from this post so mission accomplished.

I served with 1PPCLI out of Edmonton as a young adult and have enjoyed anything that goes boom since. Now I am really excited to get back into the firearm community here and do my part to promote responsible firearm ownership and use. I hope to bring some of my experience in the US 3 Gun, and IDPA scene to the Calgary area. I have already met some amazing people in Calgary who are part of the community and share similar interests. I am looking forward to doing my part in promoting this sport.

LOL...Well said, I like your style!!. You sorta get used to the hard to find extra price of almost anything gun related in Canada. Being active on these forums usually leads to a few leads on how/where to get your stuff at a reasonable price. Unfortunately mail order from the US is often the only option.

MrSame, We do understand your frustration. Many of us wish that we had the "opportunity" that U.S. gun enthusiasts have and hailing from Texas, it's surely a shock to your system. All the best:)
