Ok so I want to build a budget rifle just for target shooting and wont be any farther then 300 yards and its for the wife so was thinking .223 or .243 now we want to spend max of $1000 now the catch is she likes the look of the savage 10/110 ba kinda 50 cal kinda look can you outfit a stevens like that or if you have any ideas I would appreciate any good ideas you may have thankyou

Buy a Stevens 200 in what ever caliber you like and put a Sightron SIII scope on it. (what ever magnification that you like)

Later on down the road you can upgrade the stock to something that suits your tastes. Then you can buy a match quality barrel and aftermarket trigger.

You can buy a stevens 200 and upgrade the barrel for a very accurate budget rifle. That look is going to cost ya however. Check out XLR Chassis, They got the look and they will make a inlet for any action but they cost in the $700 range.

Maby see if you can pinch a few more $ in to the budget ?

Look for a Savage fcp, it has the same barrelled action as the BA with a synthetic stock, you can always upgrade to whatever chassis system you want later and it is available for less than $1g.

Be close with a REM SPS in .223 ($650), Burris steel 2pcs picatinny bases ($25) TPS Rings($100) and a Bushnell Elite 10x40 ($250)....those would be my picks :)

Buy a Tikka varmint and be done with it. It'll shoot as well or better than any of the other options for less money than what you will spend on ' critical improvements'. I was a savage fan once upon a time too.

Thanks for all the info so far guys but im still trying to find that look of a savage 10/110 ba I can find all the other stuff fairly easy to make a gun shoot well but is there a way to make somthing look kind of like that savage ?

Never think of doing a budget rifle...
You start with a rifle and a scope
Then you see at the range a nice bolt knob, why not?
Then you try a nice trigger, ok its woth it !
The you look over here for the nice modilar stock that is so cool !!
But, you will need a better scope to put on that !
And that barrel might need a replacement, why not have my action blue printed at the same time ?
Etc etc

You see, once you started, budget precision riflle Re : words that does'nt go together !!

Have you handled a 10/110BA? It is a heavy rifle. It looks great (to some) but if your wife is the one that will be handling it, the looks may get overwashed by how it handles when she needs to take it out.

As others have mentioned getting a look like that will not be doable under 1000. What you are looking for is a chasis system and most of them are in the $700 region. Even if you can get a Stevens for $200, you would then need the heavy barrel ($300+) and scope ($500+). By then you could have bought a 10BA (without scope)...

If all you want is a tactical look, maybe you can buy a UTG rail and mount to standard stock for the time being? An example is this one being sold on the EE
