So I am thinking about getting a rifle to do some paper punching. My range goes out to about 275 and that's it.

Thinking about either a 260 Rem or a 308.
I have lots of 308 brass and currently have a T3 Hunter in same, so reloading would be easy.
Mostly just thinking about my shoulder and therefore leaning towards a 260 for less recoil.

The 2 rifles I have in mind are either the Remington 700 Magpul - this one

or the Remington 700 Gen 2 - this one

Is there much difference?
Both have 5R rifling.
One has an adjustable stock with a drop out magazine, the other is a straight line stock with a floor plate.

Otherwise they look the same to me....any thoughts either way from guys who have these?
Thanks

Id go with the magpul just so its adjustable, since you already have a 308 reloading will be cheeper. I see no reason to go 260 unless you have a medical condition. Could also put a muzzle break on either rifle to ease the recoil.

The Mil Spec 700 is superior as far as accuracy goes . Its an old school design , but , it definitely is rock solid and works extremely well . IMO , 308 is the choice for that distance . Barrel life is much better and it will shoot 1/2 moa at distance with good ammo . I used to own an M24 from Armament Technology ( similar to the Mil Spec 700 ) and it was incredible . Armament Technology's owner won the Canadian National title 3 times with a rifle with well over 10,000 rounds through the barrel . That's hard to beat .
