I'm looking at buying my first 1911. I've narrowded down to 3

1. Kimber custom - I've had my hands on it at the store at least half a dozen times. Excellent finish and fit, and from what I've read, accurate and reliable. It's actually hard to find a review that's negative, other than the crappy stock mags. The only thing I don't like is the price $1000

2. Springfield GI milspec - Have not seen one in person. From what what I've read it performs well. They do seem to be hard to find. Does anyone have any experience with one?

3. Para GI expert - held one a few times. Finish seems nice, not as fancy as the kimber. Reviews seem alright, I've heard reliability can be an issue. Also it does not have a full length guide rod....what difference will it make?? But on the plus it's by far the cheapest. Coming in at around 600.

Opinions and advice would be much appreciated

Of the three, I'd choose the Springfield. I haven't had any experience with the Para, but there enough bad reviews....

The Kimber I owned was an accurate pistol. That is the only good thing I can say about it. Howver, I was less than impressed in other areas, so it didn't last long.

My Mil Spec SA is a great shooter, as accurate as the Kimber. Less money, quality parts (imo). No trouble with it, I'd recommend one to anybody wanting to try the platform. They do come up for sale but you have to be quick, they don't usually stick around long.

The nice thing about any 1911 is that they are easy to work on, and parts are plentiful and cheap should you decide something needs to be changed or replaced.

Of the three choices in the OP, I too lean towards the Springfield.

As for the Ruger SR1911 we're likely not going to see them here in any volume inside a year. Can't get what you can't buy. I still like 'em though.. ;)

Remington R1 and the STI Spartan seem like good options, too. And you can actually get them.

Ruger or Springfield as said above I have a Kimber and for the price there are better options.

Agree on all points. Don't bother looking for a ruger sr1911. You wont find one...unless you want to pay way too much on the EE. Put yourself on a waiting list at your local gun shop and be patient like the rest of us. If you can find a Springfield, Id say go with that until your Ruger comes in...Then you'll have 2 fine 1911's. Kimbers are nice pistols. Prone to barrel rusting though, as the Barrel is made of carbon steel. Keep er lubed up and you shouldn't have any issue.

Kimbers are fitted very nicely, but the finish is crap. I have a Kimber Raptor and the blueing is terrible. out of the 3 you narrowed it down to, i would go with the kimber. That being said, for under $1000 the best 1911 out there is the remington R1 Enhanced. If you can spend $1200, i would go for a sti trojan.

Maybe ya didn't see this vids on Para GI Expert... :p
