i just purchased a hornady 2 dies set in .223. i had a hell of a time tightening the spindle lock enough to actually keep the spindle from rotating or just sliding up when i operate the press. but i got that taken care of and now i'm trying to figure out how (if at all) i can neck size only on this die. does anyone have a technique for doing this? (i'm a noob to reloading) i hope it is possible as i only shoot one bolt action .223. any help would be very much appreciated. thank you very much guys!!

Grip the body of the die with vicegrips above where the threads are needed to fit in your press and then a wrench on the part on the spindle until it's tight. I've used several sets of hornady's and love the sizing dies, can live without the seating dies though, I tend to crunch too many cases.
Color the neck of a few cases with a marker (or smoke them with a candle) and back your die out 1 full turn from hitting the shellholder.
Try running a case into the die and see how much of the neck gets sized.
Turn your die in or out accordingly and try a new colored case. Keep doing this until you are happy with the amount of neck being sized and lock your die.
Always use a new smoked/colored case for each adjustment.
