This post is about an unusual Browning HP presentation issue "NFA 1 of 300" pistol.
Just received this email from Steve Fjestad:
Hi Serge:
Thanks for the images. In today's domestic marketplace, I think your gun will sell for between $800-$950 (American dollars). Since most Americans haven't heard of the NFA, they're probably not going to want to pay a premium for this Canadian limited edition. It may bring more money in Canada, depending on the amount of collector demand.
As a comparison, I list the BCA (Browning Collectors Association) Ltd. Ed. Hi-Power at $850 (100 mfg., 1980), and the Centennial Hi-Power (3,500 mfg. 1978) at $1,000.
Hope this helps!
Sincerely,

And the email from the NFA president:
Serge,
The pistol is indeed authentic. It is one of 300 that NFA had done as a promotion in 1980 when Bill Jones was president and NFA was based in Ottawa.
I have an ad for that pistol in an old 1980 copy of The Gun Runner classified magazine.
I had a question before about this, so obviously there are still a few out there.

I must add a clarification: There is no Made in Belgium engraved on my pistol.
A few years back I acquired a nice Browning Hi-Power presentation in a wood box. The handgun is in silver matte finish with gold plated trigger and hammer. The wood stocks are fancy with black lines in the grain. There is a NFA gold medalion on the right side. It has fixed sights. The gun is engraved "NFA 1 of 300" on the right of slide and has the typical made in Browning Arms Company Morgan Utah & Montreal PQ markings on the left. Serial number is 1980 C 014 engraved both on the barrel and frame. I was told by the previous owner these were issued in 1980 and I figure mine is the 14th of 300. The gun has never been fired. I have a book on Browning special models. It has all the engraved models (renaissance etc ...) but no mention of this one. I contacted Browning and the National Firearm Association and they have no info. I also contacted the people at BB of GV and they never answered me.
This model doen't appear in the 30th ed. of BB of GV. There's a BCA model 1 of 100 (1980) which I presume was made for the Browning Collector Association. And also a 1978 centennial model (3500 made)
Can anyone give me some info on this handgun? Thank you for your time.
Serge
