Trying to install 2 piece quad rail on AR-15?

look like problom is in the front cap.
try to take out the upper rail .then put upper + lower rail 45 degree into the front cap.
call someone to help you pull the delta ring back.
and use two hand ( or soft hammer ) squeze the back upper + lower rail together.that might work.

Told you I would not sleep till it was done. Took the upper off the lower(so I could actually give the rail end a tap), then had to file and try to fit and repeat until 0.08 of an inch was off the outer ring on the lower rail then it was so close to fit and even then had to smack it on with a mallet. There is now polished metal that shows that I will have to paint or touch up on the rail and a few spots on the rifle. I am guessing the guy that happened to be working on this particular quad rail was dying to get on with his weekend or just plain screwed up. The other thing could be that Imperial Defense did not have accessories in mind to fit there rifles? Its on now and is not coming off...ever I think. Thank you to all that gave their advice.

Same problem with installing the Daniel Defense Omega rail onto the IDS carbine.

Searched the web and it was advised to separate the upper from the lower before installing the rail. It only took less than 5 mins to install the rail once the upper was separated.

Do not know if this gave the delta ring a tad bit more room to squeeze in the rail. No filing, scraping, etc once the upper was removed to install the rail.

Did you try it with the upper separated from the lower?

Thad, for your comparison to your YHM rail...don't know why you had to 'machine' your rail down for it to fit. The DD Omega just dropped in without any force, hammering, or modifications.

Yes I did remove upper so I could use a rubber mallet to strike the back end of the bottom rail to make it slip into the front cup. The problem was the front ring on the bottom half of the rail being too thick, so I filed it down very slowly until we could make it fit, there is zero movement so its all good now. I should have taken a picture to show you what it looked like all smooth and polished, but everyone would have said you ####ed it up! I put it all back together and cleaned it all up and used model flat black to touch up the paint, I will post a pic once I have the leupold on it after I pick up QRW rings.

All I can say is you are very lucky you did not have to go through the crap I did. I actually thought it was going to be a complete loss for me at one point, but my friend did not give up and wasted a whole evening from his wife and kids to help me make it work. Thanks man. There was no chance in hell it was going to fit without removing the two nubs and the metal I filed.
 
It looks like the front handguard cap is too small - who made this rifle?

the sling swvivel is roll pinned - that's not the right way. It should be riveted.

Glad to hear you finally got it installed. Looking at your pics, it would appear the the YHM is not a free float rail?

If so, that would explain why as the DD Omega rail does not touch the front sight/cap, ... hence free float.

enjoy and post up a range report on your IDS...
