Trying to remove the decapping pin on RCBS 7.5X55 full length die. Want to resize some berdan brass but can't unscrew the pin holder. The die is brand new. Hesitant to put too much pressure on it. Don't want to damage it. Tried pliers but don't want to put too much pressure on it. Think it would get ruined if I put it in a vise, use vise grips, a drop of penetrating oil? Any sugestions?

yea- I haven't done it in a while, but rcbs used to use a tower arrangement which was a threaded rod, a collet, and a decapping pin- the pin was removable- loosen everything thing on the threaded rod-and try to take the rod out or at least make it loose so that it'll fall free when you hit the pin- I removed the nut holding the rod and backed the rod right out- then put the die in UPSIDE DOWN - that is on the "c" side of the press ( it'll thread in opposite) so that the decapping pin and the bottom of the die are POINTING UP- ie the die will be on the c or bottom of the threads- screw the die in so that it's FLUSH OR BELOW the top of your press- then using a rod or a flattened nail, TAP THE PIN on the nose and gently drIve the pin out- ie use a soft nose- all you're doing is reversing what the decapper did in the first place

Shouldn't it be as easy as this?

I can't get it to unscrew from the spindle rod. It's on tight and not sure if vise grips will cause damage.

Vice grips and you may need to file/sand/buff out the mess it may make - they are hardened though so it shouldn't be bad.
