TT-33 Accuracy

Just wondering if my TT-33 is the only one that couldn't hit the broadside of a barn at 15 yards. Seriously, I was at the range today and shot well enough with a Stoeger Luger in .22lr and my Steyr M9, but I could not hit the paper with the Tokarev. The barrel looks good, maybe not sharp rifling but I don't have a comparator. There's no pitting and otherwise the pistol is in good condition. So is it mine, or is it the surplus ammo, or are all like that?

It's not noted for being an accurate pistol but the culprit may more lie with the surplus ammo, which is getting older and was never really that consistent to begin with.

I can keep them within an 6 inch target at 20 yards, but I really had to adjust for the sights. The rear sight is the only thing that is adjustable, and I do adjust for a slight variance.

I had the same issue for a while, adjusting the rear sight helped, finger pull to the right was a issue , and surplus ammo was another issue as well.

You can find 9mm barrels out there to swap into these pistols if that helps.

Snap caps. I had an Norc M-201 (Tokaregypt) in 9mm that I couldn't hit squat with. Snap caps helped immensely. Maybe you can't get a snap cap in a 7.62 x 25 mm; make one or two. Pull a couple of bullets; fire and eject the primer, fill the case with silicon & re-insert the bullet. Paint 'er Pink and ta-da; homemade snap cap.
Might have to hydraulic the primer out because it's a Berdan primer. Google search will tell you how to do it.

they are a bit like a 1911, if the bushing and lock up is tight, it should shoot pretty good.

Mine is as loose as the day is long & I can still get decent groups at 25yrds. They are not the easiest guns to shoot.

Polish the moving parts on the hammer group to lighten the trigger. Your groups will shrink.

Participated in a course with the topic "russian weapons" which included Tokarev's.

Accuracy on all used pistols was just fine out to about 20m, even though we used surplus ammo.

your not alone,mine too.
i was blaming it on myself untill i spent a couple hours on the range with a sig. what a difference.

when i get home i am going to spend some time on my 33's sights.
the barrel bushing too,when i use my 9mm barrel with fresh/modern ammo my groupings get worse

Mine shoots a bit high but gets consistent, good groups. I also have after market Pachmeyr-style combat grips (thanks saskgunowner101) that help a LOT with maintaining a good sight picture after every shot...

The trigger on mine tends to drag so it pulls quite a bit to the right if you don't correct for it. The upright grip makes it worse. One of the fellows we see @ our range sent his into ARMco (banner, top right) for a polish and tune. Much nicer to shoot than mine.

that's what i found as well- i would venture to say 9/10s of the problem is the creepy trigger- even with the 9mm barrel installed- maybe wearing a winter mitt in-40 weather?- always down and to the right
