Tubbs Final Finish

Sitting on the fence on whether to do this barrel break-in treatment on the Savage 111FL .30-06 that I just ordered. I read the thread where someone quoted the Savage site and what they recommend to break in a barrel, and that is just way too much work for me to do.

I was going to order this Tubbs Final Finish (20 rounds) from Cabelas, but I'm wondering if it's worth doing or not?

Don't know if I'm going to be doing too much hunting...most likely long-range precision paper hunting than anything else.

I have shot several factory Savage and Stevens. I do not do any barrel break in and all have shot to their potential right away. The most obvious was 3rds inside 1/4" from my previous 270 using 150gr SST.

Those 3rds were shots 3, 4, and 5 down the pipe. The first two were to get me zeroed on the target.

Good enough for me.

I have an American address, and yes, I declare everything on both sides of the border and pay whatever duties and taxes are due...never had any problems. Of course, I'm not trying to import thousands of rounds of ammo either.

Well, looks like so far no one thinks it's worth the expense or effort either...so I don't think I'm going to bother with it.

I've never broken in a single precision barrel, even my high end match barrels, and they shoot just as well as buddy's who have broken theirs in... It won't hurt, but there's also 95% odds it won't help either. I'd just shoot it as others have suggested.

I've used Fire lapping a few times on factory barrels that fouled extremely.
Before Tubb's kit, the firelap kit from Brownells consisted of 4 grades of compound that was embedded into my own bullets by light compression rolling bullets between two steel plates in compounds.By going through shooting process with heavier to finer grit I was able to "smooth" out the roughness fairly quickly without having to hand lap.
Is it worth it? Well I would NOT firelap to "break in" ANY barrel but only used it to help out in barrels that proved a problematic.
Shoot your rifle and clean properly.The barrel will tell you if you've got an issue.
