tube fed Vs. Mag fed

Just on the side about availability of Gizzly mags - I put a WTB for mags on the EE a couple of weeks ago and had two extras within a day.

Coming from 20 years of tubes, the ability to cycle through 15 shots as fast as I could drop and slap mags was definatley an eye opener.

i saw a wannabe thug trying to show off slam a mag into a Valtro and it got stuck, took them about 20 minutes to unjam it. ill pass, thx :)

i think it would be better for military, LE or security use where you might be wearing a chest rig and are just issued mags.
as a civilian with 1-2 spare mags, its kindof pointless. $100 for a simple stamped sheet metal mag is pretty ridiculous too.

They both have their pros and cons but for me I prefer the mag fed.

I used my PM5 as a bear defence gun when working in a polar bear refuge getting in and out of the helicopter all day it gets old feeding in 7 rounds and then pumping them out after.

As a home defence gun it can be legaly stored and readied in as long as it takes to unlock it and bang the mag in. No fumbling to open a box and feed in a bunch of shells in the dark.

The downside is the inability to top off on the fly and the dificulty finding extra mags.

Do you think having a magazine that holds 20 rounds might tip the scales towards the mag fed a little bit?

...you can still load a single round at a time ,so as to still be useable, can you do that with any mag fed ?
.....
Absolutely....I can load one round at a time with my Grizzly mag fed...Yes you have to drop the mag first, but I find it to be no big deal....Mag fed shotguns are unique, which is why I bought mine... And I have three mags....

sounds like it could be a little tricky,if you can't use the mag to set the shell on,with a tube fed, just pop the round in the ejection port,it drops on the elevator, rack the slide,Ba,Da,Boom.

actually with a Valtro the mag follower stop's the bolt from being closed when the mag is empty so to single feed you must drop the mag and tip the shotgun to the side then drop a round straight into the chamber... its not "easy" but its still possible.

sure it was a Valtro and not a grizz? Valtro mag's tip in and you cant "slam" them in... i cant see how it would be possible to get a mag stuck unless they #####ed the release arm.

I did a write up on modifying the grizzly mags. It increases the capacity to 6 rounds, and removes the blot hold open feature that I personally find useless on a pump gun.

So once the mag is empty you can drop shells in the ejection port and rack away just like a tube fed. even with out the mag in place you just need to tip the gun to the side to keep the shell from falling through the mag well to pump.

I bought a grizzly mag for hunting and comp.

I like the idea of being able to slap in a mag and be fully loaded fast if truck or atv hunting, or just if I had to cross a fence or creek.

And how I look at competitive use; if a stage needed a few slugs then shot and I missed on a slug I could just pull the mag half out and load a slug into the chamber and then slap the mag home.

And to anyone finding feeding problems in there grizzly mag fed I chamfered the bottom of my chamber and it feeds 3" slugs all day with no problems.
