How is the barrel retained?

The standard little locking block that attaches where the v-block normally goes. All standard parts, easy peasy.

Will the Spectre 597 mag adapter work with this?

These will accept full size mags out of the box, the TUF 22 is designed to use both 10/22 mags and its own real mag.
