Just curious what you guys would pick? I bought an 858 before they went up stupid expensive but I really don’t use it much because of the ammo quality. Recently I have been thinking about possibly trading for a stainless synthetic 14. Thoughts and wisdom is appreciated. Thanks in advance
 
I believe the 858 is expected to be prohibited with Bill C-71.

I’m not sure of all the details as I don’t own one .... if you do a search, I’m sure there will be thread on this.
 
Think about the CSA58, an 858 in 5.56 before you jump on the mini.

A really dependable good rifle in 5.56.
The accuracy is in the nature of the 5.56 being such a nice flat trajectory.
Even bulk 223 is better than any x39.
 
If you want to shoot 7.62 a 39 corrosive 858 is easier to clean the gas system. If you are considering 223 then the ruger a bit more accurate I prefer the aperature sight with the longer sight radius easier to mount a scope. Also some 858 have the gremlin. And before anyone flames me yes I own both. Several of them.

I purchased a VZ58 Sporter rifle for myself this January
My rifle is in .223Rem, and has the 6 position collapsible stock
Its a very good design, very well made, easy to use & maintain, and accurate, also quite light out of the box
The mags that come with it are rugged and dependable, just you're limited to 5rds with them
I've since installed a magwell adapter so I can use AR15 mags for 10rd capacity, and more fun
I've fired mine lots in -24C weather, dropped it in the snow too a few times, with no problems
The .223 round is available at any gunshop / outdoor store, cheap, clean, and in a variety of loads
I've since changed the rear stock for a folding ACE AK stock, put an aperture type rear sight on it, and of course installed the mag adapter
Everyone who's tried my rifle loves it and thinks its a hoot to shoot
I'm happy with my purchase so far

Sell the CZ858 and get the VZ58 in .223??? Then you have the accuracy of .223 with the same things we love about the CZ858.

In my case, I have several AR15 mags so i got the adapter and tossed it on.
 
I sold my vz58 after I acquired a mini14, no desire to get another vz.
The vz is nice if you're plinking commie ammo and gotta clean the rifle every range trip.
The mini is nice if you want to use decent sights with a easy scope option.
The mini may eventually be usurped by the wk180c, depends on testing this summer.
 
Best option for a scope on a vz probably be a posp if you decide on it, love mine but it’s all up to preference and like lone wolf says a wk isn’t a bad choice either if 223 is on the table better out of the box set up at least. Upside I see on a vz or wk in 223 aside from the 14 is 10rd lar mags for all but the 14
