Any one have any problems using this stuff on their brass in a normal tumbler. I got a pail of it and it leaves a brownish residue in and on the brass. Will this residue effect my loads?

Thanks

is this the stuff with the red rouge on it by lyman? If so it makes your brass shiny as all get out, buy covers everything in a mile with fine red dust. Unless you wash your brass after, it gets on all your dies and press stuff and it is a (very) mild abrasive. Dosen't hurt the loads any .....just messy. I was given some, I won't be getting more....My wife absolutley hates the stuff

I've been using Tuffnut lately and I haven't had any problems with the "red dust." I wipe my brass off with a cloth after it comes out of the tumbler. The Tuffnut stuff seems to clean quicker than other types that I've tried.

A useful way to control the red dust is to collect some used fabric softener sheets, cut them up into small pieces and put those pieces in the media.

The dryer sheets absorb most of the rouge without significantly reducing the cleaning action of the tuffnut.

I hate the rouge. I tried it once and retumbled all my brass in cob to get it off. I tried dryer sheets, but I had to put about 15 in before it got the rouge down to an acceptable level.

Now I buy sandblasting walnut for $32/50lb and throw in some car wax. It works better and is cheaper.

Tumble first in Tuff Nut, then swithch to a fianl, short tumble in
"Lizzard Litter" available from the bigger pet supply places.

Lizzard litter is untreated, crushed walnut shells. Takes off the red
dust and polishes even a little more.

Polishing Media (Lizard Litter) ...

.... Go for LIZARD LITTER ! .... Cheap and readily available, does a good job, not too messy either ! ..... ( The Pet Store is your friend !) ....David K....:canadaFlag:

I just wipe off my cases when they come out of the tumbler. Corn cob sucks. It takes way to long.
I go 100% tuff nut, and wipe it off.

I heave all mine into the sink after, wash em, rinse em, then lay em out on trays on the wood stove when my wife isn't home.......gets all the red dust off. I'm not wiping down 2000 cases at a time.......

+1 for untreat walnut. I use it to clean cases, then corn cob and turtle wax (or Peek, even better) to polish. I am also looking at tryin copper slag blasting media for a first cleaning to see if it cleans the pp.

Absolutely Hate it ! Alternatives ?

Had to wipe off 200 cases by hand after the 1st batch left my completed cartridges black.

My newly reloaded cartridges looked like it was never cleaned.

On my next batch, I put a piece of cloth around a flathead screwdriver on the newly cleaned brass and wiped off the excess waxy residue and the brass does not pick up any excess powder from the reloader. Clean as a whistle. But the work to clean 200 rounds is nuts !

I have always used the media by Dillon and couldn't find Litter that are as small as the corn cob media from them.

What size of corn cob (litter) do you pick ? They vary from the size of a regular corn to as small as 1/4 size of the corn. I think the smaller one is a better one (looks like the dillon corn cob media) but are light as hell.

Any lizard litter preference ?

For Walnut (harder to find and a lot more expensive) litter they are almost impossible to find a month ago. Can't even find them in bulk. Sources ?

Where can I find sandblasting walnut ? Any store in particular in the lower mainland ?

Thanks for the help !

Any Lordco can order the Walnut shell for you or for a really cheap price, look up a sandblast abrasive suppler such as Manus in Coquitlam.

I size based on primer flash hole size and calibre. For 223 cases, the litter size cob gets stuck in the case and must be picked out. Depends on what you are reloading.
