Just wondering if anyone has had major probs fitting these Tapcos to a Tula BEFORE I buy one as I don't want to really mod the rifle at all. Would rather mod the magazine? If I DO have to mod the rifle, how drastic are we talking in wood removal? Secondly, has anyone seen any screamer deals on these mags from the usual suppliers? Cheapest I've found so far is 30 bucks, but then 13 bucks to ship. Thanks!

Just make sure to determine what actually needs to be modified. The stock or the mag? Find what is restricting the fit. I found that out the hard way putting a Buar mag in, I filed the wrong part and compromised the magazine. So I bought another one and found that the only parts I needed to file down was the rounded tip of the "duck bill" on the mag that was making for too tight of a fit. I just had to flatten that down a tiny bit to get it to click in. Once it was in the bolt catch wasn't working properly. The bolt catch is just a little mechanism in the magazine well that locks the action open when the gun is empty. On the back of the magazine follower is a rounded "rib". The follower pushes the bullets upward after each shot and that rib on the back raises the bolt catch as the the last round is fired. That rib was too rounded and jamming into the bolt catch restricting it to move freely and I had to flatten that out a little bit as well for clearance. When I bought the magazine the guy told me to work on the stock not the mag if it wouldn't fit but I found that was not the case. The Buar and the Tapco mags are of very similar design but I think the Tapco ones are better quality although not positive.

You might have to sand a bit of the inside of your wood stock where the mag goes in. Here's a pic of where I had to mod the mag

Not much. Actually I used a really sharp filet knife to shave a thin layer off. Sand paper would do it too. Just sand a bit then try. Then sand more until it easily slides in. It doesn't take a whole lot. It's not noticeable if you want to go back to original mag
